Today’s Scripture: Acts 17:7, NLT- “And Jason has welcomed them into his home. They are all guilty of treason against Caesar, for they profess allegiance to another king, named Jesus.”
In Acts 17:6, we find Paul and others being accused of spreading a gospel that had turned the world upside down. The Gospel of Jesus Christ still turns this world upside down and is opposite of the understanding of humankind.
The world does not understand nor easily accept the God who created this world and everything in it. God is the Lord of heaven and earth as we are told in Acts 17:24. We humans still attempt to build with our own hands and minds a God we can understand.
God will not be found in the creations of humans. However, we find ourselves and our firm beliefs in our Creator God and our King Jesus by searching the scriptures daily as we are instructed in Acts 17:11-12.
The good news of Jesus Christ gives us freedom and life beyond human nature. Life is not about what we can do, but as Paul told the Athenians in Acts 17:25, it is God who gives everyone life and breath and everything else.
Somehow, we are able accept that we receive life and breath with little of our own making, yet we think it is up to us for everything else. However, we do have limits to our understanding and control. Just beyond our reach is the promise of God. When we exceed our capabilities and begin to feel our way through uncharted territory it is in the scary dark places where we grope, feel, and search for God as described in Acts 17:27. Just as we are told in these scriptures, we find that God is not far from every one of us.
Although for a moment or a season, God can seem so far from us, we find that He is closer than we can imagine. In fact, opposite of the division of today’s troublemakers which were present in Paul’s day too, we are all God’s offspring and all part of one human race. Since we are God’s offspring, as stated in Acts 17:29, we do have God’s divine nature within each of us.
When we seek God’s words, we find God and the part of us that is His. We must turn away from what the world feeds us and trust and feast on the promises of God, our Creator, Father, LORD, and King.
Will we trust God with everything else today?
Today’s Prayer: Father God, Creator of all things, thank You for being our heavenly Father. Thank You LORD for breath, life, and Your divine nature within us. Draw us to Your scriptures daily so we come to know and believe. Thank You, Father God, for reminding us in Your Word that we can trust You will all things and we can worship You from and in Your divine nature. Thank You for granting us life and we are praying now to give You our lives to glorify You and Your creation. In the name of our King Jesus, we do pray, Amen.
