Today’s Scripture: Matthew 5:3 MSG: “You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule.
Hanging on for dear life we can feel like we are at the end of our ropes; nowhere else to go, out of options, losing our grip. As our hands finally lose their grip we find the kingdom of heaven.
Most translations of this verse state “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Have you held on to something or someone for so long and so tight that you were choking the life out of both yourself and what you were clinging? Have you found that when you loosened your grip on that habit, that job, that relationship or wrong rope and trusted the God of Heaven that you were blessed?
Less clinging to the known and trusting in God’s unknown takes us to a place where it is less about us and more about God. In that place we are blessed.
What are you holding onto?
Today’s Prayer: Father God, I am poor in spirit, at the end of my rope and I accept your promise of the kingdom today. Help me to let go and trust more in You LORD than the things I have been clinging to. I pray to live in the kingdom of heaven rather than clinging to temporal ropes and fears. You alone LORD do I fear and in Your kingdom I trust. Amen
