Today’s Scripture: Isaiah 1:9, BSB- “Unless the LORD of Hosts had left us a few survivors, we would have become like Sodom, we would have resembled Gomorrah.
Our God, our LORD of Hosts, the LORD of Heaven’s Armies is alive and available. Whether we choose it or not. I am thankful for those who have survived unbelief and found this God. Most of us have been saved with the assistance of a survivor. God left us a remnant of His people so we may live as His people.
Thank You LORD for Your survivors both of Isaiah’s time and ours. Have Isiah had a wake up call for us, He survived to prophesy of a coming savior. God’s Word has news for you and me too. We have not survived to simply survive.
Stories of survival give hope and promise. God and is Word are amazing and awesome. These are not just words. There is power in these books of the Bible. Real stories, real lives, and real survivors. We are not an advanced society. We are very much like these people of Isaiah’s time. However, you and I are the survivors, called to action to a world of non-believers.
As Isaiah 1:10 states, this world needs to hear the word of the LORD and listen to God. As Isaiah 1:12 promises there will come a day we will meet God, whether we have believed in Him or not. Isaiah 1:17 promises that we can learn to do right. I absolutely love the invitation of Isaiah 1:18. “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” (KJB)
Seriously, God Himself calls us to come and reason with Him. I have found that when I was distanced from God, it was because I did not go to Him at all. Sure, there were some called emergency meetings when I needed Him but mostly, I lived the life of the majority, not the remnant. I am thankful today that the life I was living broke me to the point that I had no other option but to reason with God.
I needed to know God much more than I wanted to know Him. What I have found is nothing short of amazing. I have found if we simply show up and attempt to reason with God, hear His Word and listen to Him we come to know Him. I do hear God in His Word. I cannot help but listen because He blows my socks off and has removed all doubt in me for Who He is.
My belief now is that anyone who invests the time to come and reason with Him will survive and thrive. We find who God is and who we are in those pages of the Holy Bible and listening to where He takes us. It seems odd to reference Woody Allen here, but he is attributed to have said “Ninety percent of success in life is just showing up.” Now, I do not know if he said this or not, but I do know that by simply showing up with God, He has turned me into a survivor.
It is highly probable that I may not have survived on my previous path but now I see life through the lens of God. Sunrises are richer, relationships are deeper, life has more meaning and purpose. All of this by simply committing to myself that I would show up and meet with God in the morning. This is the one solid routine I have maintained in my life over the years.
The survivors in my life encouraged me to have a “quiet time” with God. This survivor is encouraging anyone who will listen to simply spend time with God in the best way you can. Just show up for one second and read one verse of the bible and see what God does with it and you. This is a challenge for each of us. Set up an appointment with God each day and simply show up. He does change us. We become survivors. Will you accept this challenge and invitation?
As Isaiah 1:19 promises, “If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land;” (NKJV). There are consequences if we do not accept God’s invitation. We can become a friend of God instead of His enemy. Our days with God can begin today so the day we meet Him face to face He will know us, and we will know Him.
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your invitation to meet with You and reason with You. I am thankful today for Isaiah and the others who have survived before me. I am thankful, LORD, for the remnant that remained to bring us to You. Use me LORD, as Your survivor, to share Your invitation with others so they too will know You and be changed so they become Your remnant for future generations. In You LORD, I pray with great thanksgiving for the majesty of our times together. Amen.
