Today’s Scripture: Revelation 1:2, NIV- “who testifies to everything he saw—that is, the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.”
In Revelation 1:11 John was instructed to write everything he saw in a book and send it. This specific book was called The Revelation of Jesus Christ in Revelation 1:1 which God gave Him to show His servants. We are also God’s servants, and we too can testify of everything we have seen in the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.
As John in Revelation 1:5, we can write “To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood.” (NKJV) We can testify to everything we have witnessed. Revelations 1:6 states that Jesus “has made us a Kingdom of priests for God his Father. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.” In our own ways we are priests for God to be used for God. God made us for this purpose.
John wrote for us in John 1:9, “I, John, both your brother and companion in the tribulation and kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was on the island that is called Patmos for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.” (NKJV)
We are also where we are right now for the word of God and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. We are all brothers and sisters who also know tribulations and sufferings. Although we are not a patient breed, we are told we have the patience of Jesus Christ. Christ, I need Your patience now to endure these tribulations.
We are told in Revelation 1:10 that John went into the Spirit. This is where we must be. In the middle of our tribulations we can learn to be in the Spirit of God. While in the Spirit John heard a loud voice like a trumpet. While we are in the Spirit we learn to hear God’s voice for us.
When we turn away from all our tribulations and turn towards the voice speaking to us, we are where God wants us. Although our visions are different our responses can be the same as John’s in Revelation 1:17. “And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, “Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last.” (NKJV) It is so comforting to think that Jesus can also lay His right hand on us and remind us not to be afraid.
Some translations of Revelation 1:11 say the angel told John to “write on a scroll what you see.” We have heard since childhood that if we are on fire we are to stop, drop, and roll. To be on fire for God we must stop, drop, and scroll (write it down).
Whatever we are doing we can stop, drop before Jesus Christ, and record what we witness. This way we can testify before others what we have seen and heard in the Word of God and in the love of Jesus Christ. Instead of scrolling through social media today may we scroll for God.
Today’s Prayer: Almighty God take us into Your Spirit. I am stopping now LORD and dropping before You. Please write upon my heart what I was made to share with others for Your glory. Thank You Lord Jesus for blessing us with Your love and blood. Amen.
