Today’s Scripture: John 7:18, NLT- “Those who speak for themselves want glory only for themselves, but a person who seeks to honor the one who sent him speaks truth, not lies.”
Why do we toil and strive in this life? Most often it is to care for those we love and care for most. We also live a life of purpose when we seek to honor the God who has given us life, this life. We each have a mission from the One who has sent us. As Jesus answered in John 7:16, “My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me.” (NIV)
As John chapter 6 was wrapping up, Jesus asked His disciples if they too would fall away from the teachings of Jesus as others had. in John 6:68 “Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” If we too have been given the words of eternal life where else shall we go? We too can encourage those who have fallen away or never heard.
Peter continued in John 6:69, “We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.” (NIV) As we come to know and believe Jesus is the Holy One, we have a testimony to share of how we came to know and believe.
Out of our experiences with God, comes our desire, purpose, and mission to honor the One who saved us. As we seek to honor and glorify God we come to believe and know a teaching that only we can speak to the world. We also come to recognize and know our message is not our own but the message of the One who sent us. As John 6:63 guarantees, “The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life.” (NIV)
I have come to believe and know that as we seek God, His Spirit gives life to our lives and messages. Your life is different than mine, yet I know, God can use us all to show Himself to the world. If our goal, our why, is to glorify God then He gives us the message to share His Spirit and life to others.
When we come to realize we have not gotten to where we are on our own and the One who has gotten us here is not known by most of the world, we can simply share how God has changed us and given us this message. As Jesus stated in John 7:29 “But I know Him, for I am from Him, and He sent Me.” (NKJV)
Have no doubt that we are being sent. When we can get over ourselves and seek to glorify and honor The One who is sending us, we offer hope and life into this world, all of it. There are nooks and crannies that only certain messages can reach. This may just be your message that will enter the hearts and spirits of those with similar life experiences that have yet to come to know and experience the life of Jesus Christ.
As Jesus in John 7:30, maybe our hour has not yet come, but it is coming. As we seek to know God in prayer and Bible reading daily, we are being prepared to take His message to those He intends. As Jesus said in John 7:33, “I will be with you only a little longer. Then I will return to the one who sent me.”
Time is running out; we must go and give the message that God has given each of us. Will you honor the One who sent you?
Today’s Prayer: Our heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus Christ to us. Thank You LORD for the message You are preparing for us to share with the world. We are praying to glorify and honor You Father God. May others come to know and believe in You as we have. Thank You LORD for the message You have given us. Help each of us take You and Your message into the world. In the life and message of Jesus Christ we do pray. Amen.
