Today’s Scripture: Jeremiah 29:7, NKJV- “And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the LORD for it; for in its peace you will have peace.
As spoken to those in exile in Jeremiah 29:7, we should pray for peace and prosperity for the places we live in today. If the cities God has brought us have peace and prosperity, we will experience them also.
Jeremiah was written during a time when the people of Jerusalem had been taken into exile in Babylon. False prophets would tell people what they wanted to hear. Today, we must continue to discern the truth. When we seek the LORD and His truths we will find them.
Our faith is not in the cities or the governments. Our hope and faith are in the LORD, the God of Israel. We can trust that we are where God plans for us to be. As Jeremiah 29:11 professed in Jeremiah’s day, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
We will end up where God plans and expects. God is our future and our hope as also translated in Jeremiah 29:11. I am thankful that God expects us to seek Him so we can find Him as stated in Jeremiah 29:13, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” LORD, please teach us how to seek you with all our hearts. For some of us, we do not learn to seek God with all our hearts until we find ourselves exiled from the life we expected.
I am thankful for God’s promise in Jeremiah 29:14, where He says, “I will be found by you.” Let us pray, seek, and find what God expects us to find today.
Today’s Prayer: Almighty LORD, God of Israel, thank You for allowing us to find You. We are learning to seek You with all our hearts where we are. We do pray for peace and prosperity in the lands we live today, Father God. Help us LORD to live for You and to seek You always. Thank You LORD for Your creation. Grant us wisdom and discernment LORD to live in Your truth. In Jesus’ name we do pray. Amen.
