Today’s Scripture: Revelation 20:12, NKJV- “And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.”
Some people are better at prioritizing their work than others. Unfortunately, all tasks seem equally important to me and prioritizing has been an issue that feeds procrastination. However, in reading Revelation 20:5 I do sense a priority. The highest priority today and every day is to do the works which will be written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
Which works will that be? Who better to ask than the Lamb, Jesus Christ. John was granted this vision, and he was instructed in Revelation 21:5, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.” We too can write down the words we are told by the Holy Spirit that are true and faithful.
I often wonder why I write down these scriptures as affirmations, but I know in my heart they are true and faithful. In reading Revelation 20:12 this morning I am also sensing that our highest priority is to make sure we help as many people as we can to have their names in the Book of Life.
Do I know what is required for you and me? No, but I am reminded of a few of verses. Firstly, Micah 6:8, “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” (NIV) We can do that can’t we?
Romans 10:9 also states, “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (NIV) We can do this too, I believe. Believing in our heart takes focus. This world pulls our minds in a million directions but focusing on the Lamb brings our hearts into alignment with God.
Isaiah 43:7 promises that “Everyone who is called by My name, Whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.” God created us for His glory. He knows the works He has created for each of us.
As we get away from the noise of this life and praise God for who He is and give Him our hearts we begin to know the works He has for us. It is these works we must prioritize. These works are what bring others to have their names in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
At the end of the day, at the end of our lives we are created to glorify God and help make disciples for the Lamb. What is on your priority list today?
Today’s Prayer: Lord Jesus, please teach us and show us the works required of us to have our names in Your Book of Life. Show us now LORD how we may help and encourage all others to assure that the names You desire are in Your Book of Life. Thank You Father God for creating us for Your glory. Help us LORD to glorify You with our works, our hearts, and our confessions that Jesus is Lord and that You raised Him from the dead. Thank You LORD for saving us and writing our names in the Book of Life. Use us today for Your glory. In Jesus’ name we do pray. Amen.
