Today’s Scripture: 2 Corinthians 4:6, KJV- “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”
God’s light and His commands cannot be denied nor ignored. As blind as we can be, as dark as it may be, the light of God will always shine out darkness. We are commanded to share God’s light as servants to others for Jesus’ sake as 2 Corinthians 4:5 instructs us.
Whatever our darkness, whatever our temptations, we can serve others and share God’s light that we found in the dark. We, most often, must meet others in their darkness and then hold the lamp of God’s light as we make our way out to glory.
We meet others most times out of our empathy of temptations. As Hebrews 2:18 reminds us that since God came to earth in the person of Jesus Christ, He could relate to our temptations because He Himself knew the temptations of the flesh. “For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.” (NKJV)
Because we know temptation and suffering, we too can aid those who are tempted. We most often can help those who are walking a road we too have traveled. Our paths out of darkness to the light of God can be followed again and again. There is no shortage of temptation and there is no end to God’s light.
As we set our sights on Jesus, who first brought us light at the side of God, we can follow the light of God into the fullness of His glory, God’s light draws us and even more commands us to share the light we have been given.
Have no fear, Jesus has been here. Not in our sin but in our temptations. We must remember Hebrews 2:14 “Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death.” (NLT)
The power of the devil has been broken. When we only fear God and keep our sights on Jesus we know the power and confidence over death. All else may die and fall away yet the light of God remains. You and I are instruments of God’s light and Spirit. Our confidence and our hope are in Jesus Christ as we are promised in Hebrews 3:6.
As we look and listen for God today we can recall Hebrews 3:7 which states, “Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you will hear His voice,” (NKJV) I find it interesting today that every translation of this verse ends this sentence with a comma. As we have heard the old saying about what have we done with the dashes on our headstones, what will we do with this comma?
Today if we hear God’s voice and see His light, what will we do with them. I am praying we follow God’s command today to shine His light to serve others.
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus to earth in the flesh and blood so that He may know our temptations. In the temptations of our flesh and blood we have found Your light Father God. We are praying now to share Your light with others so they too may serve others confidently from Your light of salvation. In Jesus’ name we do pray. Amen.
