Today’s Scripture: Isaiah 2:5, NKJV- “O house of Jacob, come and let us walk in the light of the LORD.”
Do you think we ever exhaust God? Do we only approach His throne and His face when we are needy and desperate? I am thankful that our God calls us to come and reason with Him as He did in Isaiah 1:18, NKJV- ““Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the LORD, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool.”
God is clear in Isaiah 1:14 that He can become sick and tired of us forgetting who He is and bringing Him worthless human-filled offerings and requests. “Your New Moons and your appointed feasts My soul hates; They are a trouble to Me, I am weary of bearing them.” (NKJV) God was speaking through Isaiah to the people of Israel who had lost their way.
We cannot help but see the similarities of the people in the days of Isaiah and our societies today. We fill our lives and our time with God with busyness and even well-meant forms of worship of our own making. God made it clear in Isaiah 1:13, “Bring no more futile sacrifices; Incense is an abomination to Me. The New Moons, the Sabbaths, and the calling of assemblies— I cannot endure iniquity and the sacred meeting.” (NKJV)
These people had fallen into the assemblies of humans created from fear and corruption. They looked “religious” yet were spiritually bankrupt. Even worse as Isaiah 1:4 described “Woe to the sinful nation, a people whose guilt is great, a brood of evildoers, children given to corruption! They have forsaken the LORD; they have spurned the Holy One of Israel and turned their backs on him.” (NIV)
We can see history repeating itself today that sounds eerily like Isaiah 1:7 “Your country lies in ruins, and your towns are burned. Foreigners plunder your fields before your eyes and destroy everything they see.” (NLT). God knows when we become foreign to Him and we know it too, don’t we?
Thankfully, we do serve a God who calls us to come and reason with Him. Putting aside all other things we can come empty-handed to God. He only wants the love of our hearts, minds, souls, and strength available to Him. God’s promise and warnings to us through Isaiah 1:19-20 is that “If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land; But if you refuse and rebel, You shall be devoured by the sword”; For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.” (NKJV)
I am thankful we have a God who restores people and nations as he promised in Isaiah 1:26. I am thankful God has called us to come walk in His light. We can leave our self-serving practices behind and simply walk in God’s light and righteousness. A day is coming as promised in Isaiah 2:17 that the LORD will return and, “The arrogance of man will be brought low and human pride humbled; the LORD alone will be exalted in that day,’ (NIV) On that day, I pray we are found walking in the light of the LORD and not lost in the ways of humankind. As Isaiah 2:22 instructs us “Stop trusting in mere humans, who have but a breath in their nostrils. Why hold them in esteem?” (NIV) Let us trust in God who calls us to Himself and shines His light on us. Will you come and walk in the light of the LORD today?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, You are our Almighty God. We are Your people. Forgive us LORD when we turn away or follow corrupted leaders. Thank You LORD for welcoming us into Your light. Help us turn away from all other desires and practices that do not please You. Call us close LORD to bring You praise, obedience, and willingness to serve in the light of Your love and presence. In the name of Jesus Christ, we do pray. Amen.
