Today’s Scripture: Everyone who believes in him is freed from all guilt and declared right with God- something the Jewish law could never do. Acts 13:39 NLT (Tyndale 1996)
Be careful! These are the next words after this verse. Just like when Paul was telling them back then we need to heed the warnings today. We continue to heap guilt and attach strings by the law. Yes, we believe, but… there is no but.
This gospel, this Good News is one of belief in Jesus Christ the Son of the Living God. As we remember who God is and as we recall His promises the Holy Spirit comes upon us. Do you feel the Holy Spirit? Go back and review and know who God is and what He has done. Creation, His promise to Abraham, His promise to Jacob, His works through Joseph and Moses, the lives of King David and Solomon, and the promises of the coming Messiah through His prophets.
Jesus fulfilled those prophesies. As stated in Galatians 1:4: He died for our sins, just as God our Father planned, in order to rescue us from this evil world in which we live. (NLT) We can ask ourselves the same question Paul asked the Galatians in 3:2: Did you receive the Holy Sprit by keeping the law? Of course not, for the Holy Spirit came upon you only after you believed the message you heard about Christ. (NLT)
The message we heard was that Jesus Christ died and rose again for us. No more, no less. Do you believe?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father thank You for Your Son Jesus who died for my sins. Forgive me when I return to the law seeking salvation. I know through the law I am guilty but through Jesus I am free. Father God thank You for Your Holy Spirit that confirms and renews me. Continually remind me of my death to the law so I might live for You. Amen
