What kinds of chain of events become possible when we seek Jesus? As I read Matthew 28 this morning I witnessed some amazing things that happened as a result of Mary Magdalene and the other Mary seeking after Jesus at the tomb.
- The saw a mighty Angel. This Angel of God said to them “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. (Matt 28:5 NKJ)
- They received instructions on what to do from this Angel.
- They had great joy and ran to tell the others.
- Along their way to tell the disciples Jesus met them there.
- They were able to worship at Jesus’ feet.
- Because of them telling the disciples, the disciples now went to seek Jesus in Galilee as instructed.
- They were given the great commission to go and make disciples of all nations.
Wow, all because they went to seek Him. Now I am not saying Jesus would not have completed His mission without them seeking Him that morning but I am saying that because they did seek Him they were apart of something miraculous.
As we commit ourselves to seek Jesus will be find a similar experience? Do you think you may:
See angels, receive clear instructions, experience great joy, meet Jesus, worship at Jesus’ feet, and lead others to seek Him and go and make disciples of all nations?
All of this beginning just because we first seek Him. Great and mighty things may transpire that we can’t imagine. When these ladies were seeking Jesus that early morning do you think they could have expected any of this?
They didn’t go to find these things they just went to seek Him.
May we also seek Him today. No expectations of what will happen because we seek Him but to just seek Him. I am thinking that the chain of events we experience and we spur on will be miraculous and can change nations.
What great joy, what an opportunity to rejoice with Jesus and be a part of His will and His kingdom. Great joy indeed! Today’s affirmation from Matthew 28:5 could have been just “Seek Jesus” but stating “I seek Jesus” makes this a very personal and challenging affirmation for today. Can we each say that for ourselves and then witness what He will do because of our seeking?
What kinds of things have you found when you went to seek Him? Will you affirm this with me today?

My study of Colossians for my sermon series hits on this Tom. The heresy making its rounds in those days was the need for more knowledge, more experiences, more revelation. Paul’s words were (to borrow yours) “seek Jesus. You need nothing more.” I personally believe that God’s Word is all the revelation we need. We need insight into understanding it for sure. But it is absolutely essential that we do what you suggest here: seek Jesus.
Thanks Bill, praying now that the Holy Spirit draws your flock in this week and may they rejoice and feel great joy of simply (poor word) seeking Him. May we not complicate it with our expectations, perceptions and desires. Just seek Jesus. God Bless your servant Bill and speak clearly though him so that those entrusted to him will seek You above all others. Amen
For me, it means praying on my knees and almost always changing my thoughts. Letting go of my ways. Realizing again and again and again that I don’t know what’s best. Thanks, Tom
Julie, that has been my experience as well… The knees, again and again and again has brought us to this place of joy. Thankful for you my sister!! May His thoughts overwhelm our thoughts!
