Today’s Scripture: Matthew 5:48 ESV: You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
As a young boy I found this verse in a moment of extreme nervousness before a church play. I reached for a bible because I needed relief. What I found was peace in God’s perfection and not mine.
It took me years to find this verse again and even more years to give up on trying to be perfect myself. The life Jesus is calling us to here in Matthew chapters 5-7 is only possible through seeking first the kingdom of God.
As Jesus taught us we must begin by being poor in spirit; poor in our own spirit, poor in our mind and flesh. Our acceptance of our poverty and the awareness of God’s riches open up His Kingdom that is perfect. We need the perfection of God to live as Jesus teaches and to fulfill His promise.
Do you believe that God’s perfection is in you?
Today’s Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for your words to us. Thank You for revealing Your Spirit that is perfect. Help me to live in Your Spirit. I know my spirit is poor and impure while Your Spirit is pure and rich. Hold me close LORD and keep the eyes of my heart on Your Spirit. Amen

Affirmations of God
This promise is so huge, Tom. It’s hard to grasp, but I guess that’s part of His Splendor. Thank you.
Thanks Julie, definitely hard to get our heads around this one…a gateway into understanding the Spirit of God is not in our heads but some place way beyond our understanding and contained within us. WE can trust His perfection over our understanding and just go with what we can not grasp. Blessings as you share the perfection that is in you!
