Today’s Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 2:13, NIV- “And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe.”
Almost everyone on earth has heard of the bible. We can pray together now that more and more people come to experience how the word of God can work in us. God can work us over very well but in a most amazing, joyful, and equipping way.
This is not just about reading the printed words on paper. This is about the promises of the word of God being written on the tablets of our hearts. It is amazing how the words written by those who walked with Jesus by the hand of the Holy Spirit can transcribe the spirit of their writings.
Like Paul here in 1 Thessalonians and the words of David in the Psalms there is certainly a sound of joy and thanksgivings that come from hearts being worked on my God. In 1 Thessalonians 1:8, the more we receive God’s word the more it rings out from us so that we impact hearts and souls around the world. This ringing is not from our words but of the word of God at work in us.
When God and His word are at work in us, we come to know a love that we can no longer contain. God’s word prepares us to walk in a way that is worthy of God who is calling us into His Kingdom and glory as Paul stated in 1 Thessalonians 2:12. Paul encourages us to live a life pleasing to God and to not fall into the trap of trying to please humans.
As 1 Thessalonians 2:13 states the word of God is indeed working in us. We not only find the hope, joy, and glory of Jesus Christ in the word of God we are allowed to experience and share them. When we welcome the word of God into our minds, hearts, and souls, He strengthens and encourages us in our faith and love.
1 Thessalonians 3:8 promises that when the word of God is at work in us, we learn to really live and stand firm in our faith. I can feel Paul’s heart of gratitude as he asked the Thessalonians in 3:9, “How can we thank God enough for you in return for all the joy we have in the presence of our God because of you?” When God is at work in us, we find a deep and abiding thanksgiving and joy.
Night and day as we pray the word of God comes alive in us. Our God and Father Himself and our Lord Jesus clear the way for us as Paul trusted in 1 Thessalonians 3:11. The Lord makes our love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, God’s word strengthens and establishes our hearts. God’s word instructs us in how to live in order to please God and encourages us to please Him more and more.
God’s word gives us warnings of immorality and convicts us to live a holy life. God gives us His Holy Spirit to bring forth His words for us. As Paul wrote in 1 Thessalonians 4:9, God is teaching us how to love each other. God’s word urges us to love more and more. God’s word teaches us how to live and work. Until the trumpet call of God sounds, we can live His word.
We can live with God now and forever when we welcome His word to be at work in us. Are you allowing the word of God to be at work in you?
Today’s Prayer: Father God, thank You for the salvation we receive in Jesus Christ. Thank You for Your word and for the Holy Spirit who is at work in us. Help us to live and love together in You. Help us to build each other up to live in peace with each other. Please use Your word to encourage the disheartened, help the weak, and help us to be patient with everyone. Please help us LORD to always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else. In You and Your words we rejoice always. Teach us LORD to pray without ceasing in a way that pleases You. In everything we are giving thanks in Christ Jesus. Amen.
