Today’s Scripture: John 16:33, NIV- “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
This world and every age bring troubles and tribulations. The hearts of humans can conceive incredible evil. Crowds of people will follow this evil and are blinded to the truth. Jesus promises here in John 16:33 that we, His followers, should take heart because He has already overcome the world. In this alone we find peace.
Jesus told us He had spoken these things so we would have peace. Let us review today what things He had just spoken so we will have peace.
- Although this world scatters and divides us we are not alone because our Father in heaven is with us. This one point alone gives us peace. We are never alone when we turn to the Father. (John 16:32)
- I believe Jesus, and this gives me peace. “Do you now believe?” Jesus replied. (John 16:31)
- Jesus told us He was returning to the Father when He left this earth. We are also told that one day He is coming back to rule forever. This gives us the peace of not looking at only today but eternity with Jesus. Eternal peace is ours. (John 16:28)
- When we love Jesus and believe He came from God, the Father Himself loves us. With the love of our heavenly Father our hearts are filled with peace and love. (John 16:27)
- Jesus and the word of God speak plainly to us. In them we find peace. (John 16:25)
- When we ask Jesus for peace and joy, He has promised we will receive it. (John 16:24)
- God the Father gives us whatever we ask in Jesus’ name. (John 16:23)
- We will see Jesus again and no one will take away our joy. (John 16:22)
- Jesus has left us the Spirit of truth who tells what He hears from God. (John 16:13)
In a little while we will see Jesus face to face. Jesus is our peace. Will we thank Jesus for overcoming this world and giving us peace now?
Today’s Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for coming to us from the Father and returning to Father for us. We believe that You are coming back. I believe Your death on the cross overcame this world and gave us the peace that surpasses all understanding. We do have troubles and tribulations here on earth, but we turn to You in faith, peace, joy, and love. Father God let us know the fullness of Your joy and peace. We ask these things in the name of Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
