Today’s Scripture: Romans 11:11, NLT- “Did God’s people stumble and fall beyond recovery? Of course not! They were disobedient, so God made salvation available to the Gentiles. But he wanted his own people to become jealous and claim it for themselves.”
Paul writes that Israel stumbled so that salvation would be made available to the Gentiles. Because of the stumbling of others, God made salvation available to us. Stumbling and suffering create cries from our hearts as David stated in Psalm 69:29, NKJV- “But I am poor and sorrowful; Let Your salvation, O God, set me up on high.”
We have been disobedient too, haven’t we? We did not fall beyond recovery either. In our recoveries and in our cries for help we find the salvation of God. Out of our salvations others too may receive salvation.
God does blind us at times. When our humbled eyes and hearts are opened, we experience what David spoke of in Psalm 69:32, “The humble shall see this and be glad; And you who seek God, your hearts shall live.” (NKJV) When our hearts come alive, we can trust that the salvation of God will bring other hearts alive as well.
In our failures and in our salvations, we know completely the truth of Romans 11:6, “And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.” (NIV) Jesus Christ is our salvation and our actions certainly do not earn it.
As Paul wrote in Romans 11:1, “I ask then: Did God reject his people? By no means! I am an Israelite myself, a descendant of Abraham, from the tribe of Benjamin.” God has not rejected Israel either back in David’s, Paul’s, nor our times. Has Israel stumbled? Yes. Have we? Yes. However, we were raised out of the failures of others.
Our hearts have become alive to stand with the God of our salvation. We can stand and live because of the grace of Jesus Christ. As Romans 11:5 states, “So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace.” We too are a part of a remnant chosen by grace. We have been chosen so others too may receive salvation.
Let us live today with our hearts alive with the salvation of God and the grace of Jesus Christ. We can trust in Romans 11:12, “But if their transgression means riches for the world, and their loss means riches for the Gentiles, how much greater riches will their full inclusion bring!” (NIV)
This world will experience the greater riches of full inclusion into the salvation of God. We can cling to God and His salvation and pray that our stumbles will welcome others into the greater riches of God’s salvation.
Today’s Prayer: Father God of Israel, thank You for making Your salvation available to us. Although we may be blinded at times we can receive Your salvation through the grace of Jesus Christ. Bring our hearts alive Father God. Use our former disobedience to bring others to know You and Your salvation. We offer You our lives, our hearts, and our service with our whole hearts in faith of Your salvation. We trust in Your ways and Your salvation in the grace and mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
