Today’s Scripture: Jeremiah 23:23 NLT- “Am I a God who is only close at hand?” says the LORD. “No, I am far away at the same time.”
There is something to be said for maturing in life and in our faiths. As we grow older, we experience the heartwarming reassurance of Jeremiah 23:23 that God is both near and far.
The Word of God is vast in teaching and promise. Even when we are not feeling the closeness of God we can trust and expect that God is over the horizon. We may not yet see Him, but we can know He is with us. I often recall a message I received on a walk one morning. As I walked up the steep hill, I could not see the sunrise since the hill was blocking my view. Yet the glow of hope was in the air. I knew the brilliant sun was there, it was only temporarily blocked from my view.
Continuing the way, the beauty of God’s masterpiece exploded upon all my senses. Strangely, I get these same experiences walking through the Word of God. Many times, I do not even realize where I am in the Word but following the way of God I arrive to the verse where I experience God revealing His beauty.
We can trust our journeys when we listen to the wisdom of those who have walked this way before us. Proverbs 23:19 states “My child, listen and be wise: Keep your heart on the right course.” (NLT) As we follow God and His wisdom we are heading in the right direction. We will find joy and awe over the horizon.
As Proverbs 23:26 promises, when we give God our heart our eyes will delight in His ways. We must be careful who we follow. If they are not directing us towards God, we are not heading in the right way. God is right where we are today, yes, He is very near. He is also the Almighty God of Heaven who created all things, so He is far.
Just as in the days of Soloman and Jeremiah we must accept God’s truths over what man professes. What a wonderful mystery that although we cannot comprehend the majesty of God it can be within us. Although He may be beyond our sight, we can trust His beauty lies ahead. Will you follow God who is both near and far today?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for being near and far. Thank You for blessing us with Your Spirit who resides within us. You are also our Father in Heaven as Jesus taught us to pray. LORD direct us today both near and far. We are expecting to see Your beauty. Amen.
