Today’s Scripture: Luke 2:34, NLT(Tyndale)- “Then Simeon blessed them, and he said to Mary, “This child will be rejected by many in Israel, and it will be their undoing. But he will be the greatest joy to many others.”
The Word is alive! Jesus is alive and He is our greatest joy and comfort. The story of Simeon always reaches into my soul. in Luke 2:26 we are told it had been revealed to Simeon by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before seeing the Lord’s Christ.
Luke 2:27 tells us that Simeon, moved by the Spirit, went into the temple courts at the exact moment Mary and Joseph were entering the courts to present the baby Jesus to do for him what the custom of the Law required. We must listen and move on to what the Holy Spirit reveals to us.
Timing is so important as evidenced in this story. What if Simeon had hit the snooze button or found something else to do that day? Not only would he have missed the baby Jesus, but He would have missed his calling to confirm Jesus as the Messiah to the world. Simeon went where the Spirit moved him and found himself in the right place.
When we go where the Holy Spirit leads us, we too, find our greatest joy and comfort in being in the right place. This joy and comfort are equaled by nothing and no one. Holy Spirit I am asking You to move me. Have me be where the Spirit of God wants me to be. I am thankful that even in my running away, in my rebellion, You have had me run to just the right place.
God use Your Spirit, Your law, Your servants and Your supernatural power to move me where I am to be. Please move me to seek Your will. Move me to the right relationships to serve Your purposes. Thank You for using Your Spirit and Your Law to bring me here. I am going now where You lead. Please grant us the discernment to hear You clearly and the wisdom and courage to move.
In Luke 2:32 we find that Simeon knew that Jesus was the promised light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of God’s people of Israel. In Luke 2:49, the twelve-year-old Jesus asked His parents “Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” (NIV)
As we stay with the Father and His Holy Spirit we will always be in the right place. As Mary did in Luke 2:51, we can treasure all these things in our hearts. Following the Holy Spirit in our hearts we will always be found in the place of our greatest joy and comfort. Where will we be found?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Holy Spirit and our comforter Jesus Christ. Please move us Father God to be where You desire us to be. Help us to mature in wisdom and favor as You did with Jesus. Move us with Your Holy Spirit where You want us to be. In You Father God I seek Your joy and comfort. Amen.
