Today’s Scripture: Mark 10:50, CEV- “The man threw off his coat as he jumped up and ran to Jesus.”
This story of the blind man calling out to Jesus always draws me into the story. Suddenly, I become the blind man yelling out to Jesus as He is travelling by. This man cried out in both Mark 10:47 and 10:48, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
Even as those around him told him to be quiet, “he cried out all the more.” (Mark 10:48, NKJV) I am crying out all the more now too! Jesus, Son of God, have mercy on me! As the blind man, in Mark 10:50, we too can cast away all other things, rise, and run to Jesus.
We face opposition when we run to Jesus, don’t we? God knows how the crowds around us try to shout us down. The various translations of Mark 10:48 use different words to describe how he and we are rebuked, admonished, silenced, told to hold our peace, and sternly told to be quiet.
Jesus is near, now is NOT the time to remain quiet! Mark 10:51 always, and I do mean always, stops me in my tracks. “So, Jesus answered and said to him, “What do you want Me to do for you?” The blind man said to Him, “Rabboni, that I may receive my sight.” (NKJV)
As the dust settles from me putting on the brakes of my running to Jesus, I am praying I can answer as quickly as the blind man. He knew he wanted sight. What do you and I want from Jesus? Do we know our answer? What do we desire more than anything else that we can pour out to Jesus?
Come on, be real, what do you really want from Jesus? In a perfect world, what do You want Jesus to do for you? The blind man answered Jesus instantly and in front of everyone. I wish I were as confident and bold as the blind man.
The following verses in Mark tell of Jesus moving on to prepare for His triumphant entry into Jerusalem. However, over two thousand years later, we are still encouraged and having our eyes opened by this story. Will others also be encouraged years from now when they hear what Jesus did for us?
Jesus is also speaking to us in Mark 10:52, “And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus in the way.” (KJV)
Let us go. Let us have faith in God as Jesus instructs us further in Mark 11:22, “Then Jesus said to the disciples, “Have faith in God.” (NLT). Jesus also told us in Mark 11:23, that what we believe in our hearts and ask of Him it will come to pass.
Mark 11:24 states “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” (NKJV). What are you asking Jesus for?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus to us for healing. Jesus forgive me for my lack of faith. I am praying now, in faith, and believing to complete what You have placed in my heart and planned for me. I am asking You now Lord Jesus to complete Your will in me. Please use my healing LORD to bring others to You. May we go and follow Jesus and share our faiths so others will come to faith. In the healing name of Jesus Christ, we do pray and go together. Amen.
