Today’s Scripture: Mark 10:49, KJV- “And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.”
Hold on a second. Be still and listen. Sometimes I get ahead of myself. We must always read God’s Word for the context and specifics. Scribes counted each letter, word, and space, and each were God-breathed. The laws and commands of God have a way of correcting us or as 2 Timothy 3:16-17 tells us that “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (NKJV)
Just yesterday I was busy calling out to Jesus and trying to figure out what I would say to Him if He asked what He could do for me. Just a few minutes after writing all of that I felt led to go back to the scriptures for some reason I do not even recall.
As I read Mark 10:49, I immediately questioned whether this was even the scriptures I had been in just moments earlier. This is how God speaks to me. Suddenly, I am reading God’s Word, and I am totally in a different place and time.
I read the words “Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.””. Wait what? I do not recall reading that. I jumped from 10:48 where the blind man was calling out to 10:50 where he jumped to his feet and ran to Jesus.
After getting my bearings I realized I was in the right place. I just needed to be still with Jesus and listen to hear if He is calling me. Am I getting the cart before the proverbial horse? Am I hearing the calling of Jesus or my own voices? Jesus instructed His disciples to call the blind man. In the various translations, we are told that he was told to cheer up, take heart, have courage, and be of good comfort.
Can we stop together right now? Can we be still and listen for the calling of Jesus? As we have big decisions to make in life, we often squeeze in time to pray. However, as the blind man in this story, he ran to Jesus when he was called. He did not say, wait Lord, let me kneel and pray and seek wisdom and make sure it is You LORD who is calling me. Lord Jesus, if You are calling me, please help me discern Your voice or the voices of Your servants and grant me the cheer, courage, and comfort in my heart to know that it is You.
Jesus, at times we are blind and afraid. I am thankful we can be still and listen for Your voice. I am running in Your direction LORD. Please use our newfound vision and hearing to glorify and serve You and our Father in Heaven. Guide us LORD and teach us with Your Holy Spirit to hear, go, and do Your calling.
Will you stop and be still to listen for the calling of Jesus Christ?
Today’s Prayer: Jesus, I am stopped. Please still my heart, mind, and soul. I am asking now for the wisdom of God, the Holy Spirit, and Your voice to be clear with me. I am desiring to live in Your calling and not in the desires of my flesh nor my understanding. I am seeking to walk with You and follow Your ways in the calling You have for me. Jesus, I am awaiting Your command. In You LORD I trust and go. Amen.
