Today’s Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:1, NIV- “For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.”
When we look to God with our current and eternal lives, we can rest in the fact that God is the designer and builder. Regardless of what is happening around us, God is building our lives. We may think, momentarily, that our lives are being destroyed. However, God’s hands are at work.
We can know and trust that God is renewing our inner self day after day as we are promised in 2 Corinthians 4:17, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.” Paul was writing this letter to the church at Corinth that he knew was struggling.
We sometimes need reminding during the struggles and seasons of destruction in our lives. If we can trust God with eternity, we can trust Him with today. I am finding that my days are best started when I allow God to build my prayers. I do not want to fill my time with God with my limited understanding and rambling thoughts and words. I want God to do His works in me. By God’s hands and heart, we are built. This is why we must fix our eyes on the unseen world of God as was written in 2 Corinthians 4:18, “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
We can trust 2 Corinthians 5:17, “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” (NLT) Yesterday is gone and we are being renewed today by the hand of God and the Spirit of Jesus Christ. We have been renewed to serve our ministries of reconciliation. Our stories of how Jesus has reconciled us with God are how we serve as God’s ambassadors as we are called in 2 Corinthians 5:20.
We know that Paul and those believers that have come before us have known trials and tribulations as listed in 2 Corinthians 6:4-10. However, we can know and hold onto the fact of 2 Corinthians 6:10 that when this life makes it seem we have nothing we can look to the hand of God and know we possess everything in Jesus Christ.
Today we can trust 2 Corinthians 6:16, “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.” (NIV). We are the temples and buildings of God; God is dwelling in us, and we are under construction by the hands of God.
Will you trust that you are being built for eternity today?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your hand in our lives. Thank You LORD for making us a new creation in Jesus Christ. Build us LORD and our ministries of reconciliation. Help us to live by faith and to encourage others to trust that Your hands are at work in our lives. You are building us for eternity LORD, and we are being renewed day after day to live the life that will reconcile this world to You. Amen.
