Today’s Scripture: Jude 1:6, NIV- “And the angels who did not keep their positions of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling—these he has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for judgment on the great Day.”
Do you want mercy, peace and love in abundance as promised in Jude 1:2? Then stay in your lane, so to speak. You and I have positions of authority. Jude was writing to us in Jude 1:1, to those who are sanctified by God the Father, preserved in Jesus Christ, and called. (KJV)
We have been sanctified by God. I must always do a search to be reminded of what sanctification in the bible means. Most sources say that it means to be set apart for special use or purpose and to be made holy.
In recovery, we say everyone has earned their spot to sit in the meetings. No other humans can take away our right to sit humbly with God and serve our special purpose. However our natural instincts bring on judgment and comparison.
You may have heard that comparison is of the devil. When we begin to compare ourselves to others, we give up our positions of authority. I have done this in recovery by being intimidated to share my story because my testimony of recovery is not as awe inspiring as some others.
I can be too intimidated to share my faith when I hear other faith stories or witness those who know the bible way more than me. Who am I? Is God really calling me? We rarely feel qualified when God calls us.
“But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” Exodus 3:11 (NIV) I am not comparing you or myself to Moses but pointing out that we rarely feel qualified.
Moses doubted himself even while witnessing God’s voice coming from the burning bush. We too most often hear God’s voice coming from the flames of our lives. Who are we to doubt God’s calling?
I have found so much mercy, peace, and love in abundance that all I want to do is encourage others of this hope. God’s mercy, peace, and love are my authority for those needing to hear God’s voice.
God took me to my knees, back to His Word, to read of His servants and apostles that came before us to provide His promises and encouragement. Be steadfast in what sets you apart. Living out your authority in Christ is where you find holiness.
Today’s Prayer: Father God, thank You for humbling us with Your love. Please keep our hearts, minds, and souls focused on You and our service to You. Protect us LORD from our own natural instincts to compare with others and doubt the calling You Yourself have called us to. Help us to complete what You have set each one of us apart to do. Holy Spirit please guide us to fulfill our calling. In the name of Jesus, who keeps us, we do pray. Amen.
