Today’s Scripture: Mark 10:1, NIV- “Jesus then left that place and went into the region of Judea and across the Jordan. Again crowds of people came to him, and as was his custom, he taught them.”
Is Jesus our go to? If we want to be taught and directed in this life, do we allow others to teach us the way to go? We should all gather around Jesus and learn. Just like the Pharisees of Mark chapter one this world will try to trick us and discredit what is good.
With the amount of conspiracy theories floating around today, I no longer have any doubt that the ruler of this world will blind most on the day of Jesus’ return. We are already being taught not to believe what we see and know to be real.
The hearts and minds of those who do not gather around Jesus are still hardened. I honestly had no idea, when beginning this message, that the next verse would be Mark 10:6, “But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’ What was once considered basic is now complicated.
I know the following verses are read many times in weddings, yet in or out of context, I am thinking Mark 10:9 still stands, “Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” I do not want to separate what God has joined together yet in full disclosure, I do not claim to understand and know what God has joined together.
The disciples were not sure they understood Jesus’ words either. They had to ask Him again when alone with Him as mentioned in Mark 10:10. Jesus spoke cold hard facts to them about the consequences of our decisions.
We complicate the simplicity of Jesus’ grace. Mark 10:15 states “Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein.” (KJV) Does that also mean that regardless of our understanding and what we have done we can still receive the kingdom of God if we come to him with the trust and belief of a little child? Am I misunderstanding? Maybe.
I want to live in the center of Mark 10:16 today, “And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.” I may an old man yet; I want to always come to Jesus to be taught with an innocence and desire to be wrapped in His arms and to be blessed by Him. That is all that I do know.
Jesus looks at us with love as He did the young man in Mark 10:21, “Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me.”
What Jesus teaches us today is in love. Just as the young man in this story, we do not understand. The disciples too did not understand and thought amongst themselves in Mark 10:26, “Who then can be saved?”
In the following words of Jesus, we find out who can be saved. In Mark 10:27, Jesus says, “Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.”
It is impossible for us to understand. But, very possible and necessary, to come to the arms of Jesus with the innocence of a child and trusting that God can save any of us. Do you believe it is possible for God to save you?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, forgive me for my arrogance to believe my understanding. You LORD are our God, King, Lord, and Teacher. I am coming to You now Lord Jesus for You to teach me in the way I am to go. Hold me in Your arms Lord Jesus, look to me with love, and teach me. I know all things are possible with God. In Your name Lord Jesus, I am praying. Amen.
