Today’s Scripture: Luke 23:46, NKJV- “And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, ‘into Your hands I commit My spirit.” Having said this, He breathed His last.”
We can commit our spirits to God the Father right now. Although words fail to bring light to a darkened world. We can bring God’s light into our darkest days. As individuals and nations, we can commit to God.
When Jesus was on the cross, darkness had fallen across the whole land, and it was noon. We cannot grasp the pain and anguish Jesus must have felt in these last moments of His earthly experience. Jesus knew this moment was coming and He served all of us in His sacrifice.
As Jesus told His apostles during the last supper in Luke 22:27, it is greater to serve, and He was the servant sitting among them. Jesus served you and me when He committed His Spirit to God the Father. Jesus teaches us that we can serve God the Father when we commit our spirits to the Father as well.
In Luke 22:29, Jesus said He had appointed us a kingdom just as His Father had appointed one to Him. Will we serve, as Jesus did, to the bitter end and beyond? Will we leave a roadmap to the Father and serve our fellow humans? Jesus has prayed for us, and we can pray to Jesus as Luke 22:37 states that our faith may not fail.
Jesus, please pray for me that my faith will not fail and that I will serve You and all others. As Luke 22:35 promises, we will lack for nothing when serving Jesus and the Father. We can pray to stay away from temptations that hinder our missions as Jesus instructed us in Luke 22:40.
Our missions and our kingdoms begin as Jesus showed us in Luke 22:41 by His kneeling and praying. Our first step in serving until the end of our earthly lives begins on our knees praying. We too can pray that the Father’s will be done and not ours. So, let us rise and pray, to keep away from temptation as Jesus instructed His disciples in the garden.
We can share the exceeding gladness we find when we see Jesus. We can also pray like the criminal hanging next to Jesus that He remembers us in His kingdom so we can serve Him in ours. Will you commit your spirit to the Father today?
Today’s Prayer: Father God, I am bowing my head now and giving up my spirit to You. Thank You for forgiving me, a sinner, so I may serve You in Your kingdom and in the kingdom, You have sent me into. Thank You for the life and death of Jesus. Thank You for Your Holy Spirit. I am praying that You keep me from temptation so that I complete Your will for my life. Amen.
