Today’s Scripture: Ezekiel 1:28, NLT – “All around him was a glowing halo, like a rainbow shining in the clouds on a rainy day. This is what the glory of the LORD looked like to me. When I saw it, I fell face down on the ground, and I heard someone’s voice speaking to me.”
Ezekiel received visions when the hand of the LORD was upon him. He fell on His face as he saw the brilliant lights of the glory of the LORD. With his face down in the dust that is when He heard the voice of the LORD. In the next verse Ezekiel 2:1 the LORD said to Ezekiel ““Son of man, stand on your feet, and I will speak to you.”
When we fall flat on our faces before the LORD, we begin to hear Him. We are told in Ezekiel 2:2 that the Spirit of the LORD entered him and raised him to his feet, and he heard God. The Spirit also enters us as we are on our faces and raises us to hear the LORD.
God knows the challenges we face. He only called Ezekiel and us to be faithful to sharing what He speaks to us. God even told Ezekiel not to worry about whether the people of Israel listened or not. Do not fear them “you must give them my message whether they listen or not.” We are not to be concerned with the responses of others but only about our response to the LORD.
In Ezekiel 2:6 the LORD said “do not be afraid” three times. Ezekiel 2:7 instructs Ezekiel and us that we must speak God’s words. The LORD fed Ezekiel a scroll, so the words of God were inside of him. God feeds us through His daily bread of His Word so we too can share His Words. Like Ezekiel we find that God’s words are as sweet as honey.
Thankfully, God also feeds us our determination and strength. As we receive God’s words into our hearts, they pour out of us. The Spirit of the LORD is with us. As spoken in Ezekiel 3:18 we too are given words to share that save lives. The hand and the Spirit of the LORD are upon us.
To say “I have fallen flat on my face” usually means we have messed up in human terms. Somehow that is supposed to be a sign of embarrassment and looking foolish in front of others. However, this is where we start with the LORD. Falling on our faces before Him we hear His voice and are lifted to do His will by His holy Spirit. We are not to be afraid of looking foolish to others.
Are we worried about falling on our faces before humans or God?
Today’s Prayer: LORD, I am falling on my face before You. Please lift me with Your Spirit and speak. Be clear and specific with what You will have us say and do for You. I ask for Your words to sink deep into my heart. Show me the responsibilities You will hold me accountable for. Remove all my fear of humankind and all concern as to whether they listen to me or not. Keep Your hand upon us LORD to share the messages You have given us. Amen.
