Today’s Scripture: Matthew 6:6, NKJV- “But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”
Our personal time with God is very personal. The word you or your is repeated in Matthew 6:6 seven times. The number seven often symbolizes completeness and perfection from Genesis to Revelation. When we get alone with God in our secret places, we become a part of His rewards.
Why then, Tom, are you being not so secret in sharing your secret times with God? This is a great question I am forced to ask myself. As I re-read Matthew 6:1 today, “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.”
It has been my experience that alone with God, in secret, we find the rewards and completeness of God. I am certainly not righteous nor intending to publicly present a false righteousness. I pray to share the daily bread of our Heavenly Father. We can be generous with the rewards of our LORD.
We each can find our own secret times and places with God our Father. We can be real with a very real and present God. When we look to see our unseen Heavenly Father, He rewards us with His treasures of heaven. These are treasures that the thieves of this world cannot break in and steal.
Buried deep within our souls are these treasures. We learn to not be greedy with God’s treasures as we know we had nothing to do, personally, with these rewards. Our God is a generous God who holds the greatest of treasures in His hands.
From God’s hands into our hearts. We cannot see God nor most His treasures, but we can store them up in our hearts. As we glorify God by sharing His treasures, we can pray His light shines into the secret places of all.
For those who have experienced God’s light bursting into our great darknesses, we can reflect His light. We can serve our one true Master today by giving away the rewards we have received. As Matthew 6:25 confirms “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?”
When we come to realize how little we personally have to do with God’s greatness we come to trust in His provisions. It is not up to us, so do not worry. As we welcome God’s light, will, and kingdom we come to know our value in God. As Matthew 6:32 states, our heavenly Father already knows all our needs.
Our heavenly Father allows us to experience Matthew 6:33 that when we seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, all these things will be given to us as well. When we are alone with God in our secret places, we receive all that God offers for us to rejoice and feed His sheep.
Do you have a secret place?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for meeting us in secret. Although we cannot see You, we can see Your rewards and treasures. LORD humble us to welcome Your light and Father God help us to reflect Your light that penetrates the darkest of secrecies. We welcome Your daily bread that allows us to feed others. Help us LORD to feed Your sheep and plant Your seeds of the kingdom. Amen.
