Today’s Scripture: Philippians 1:14, NIV- “And because of my chains, most of the brothers and sisters have become confident in the Lord and dare all the more to proclaim the gospel without fear.”
We do not know God’s timing, but we do come to know, over time, that our confidence can be found in God. Paul had become confident in the Lord that his brothers and sisters would become confident in the Lord. That is a lot of confidence coming from a person writing this letter sitting in the chains of prison.
Paul mentioned in Philippians 1:6 that he was confident that God would complete the good work that He had begun in the followers of Jesus Christ in Philippi. He was confident because of the partnership they had shown him from the beginning of the spreading the Good News about Christ.
Many of us have been blessed to grow due to the prayers of others. We often hear of the strengths of a praying mother or grandparent who prayed over us that one day we would return to the Lord. Thankfully, those prayers and ours are multiplied and continue to bring God’s increase.
We are still receiving the benefits of the prayers of Paul in prison that he refers to in Philippians 1:9, “And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight,” Is it possible that our love for Christ is abounding more and more from the prayers of Paul or others who have prayed for us? I am confident it is so.
I have become confident in the Lord also that our prayers for others bring joy and change. Just this morning I looked through the notes I have taken over the years of finding confidence in the Lord. I became even more confident than before as I found more scriptures in which we can find confidence.
- In the fear of the LORD, I have found strong confidence. (Proverbs 14:26)
- The LORD is the confidence of my heart. (Psalm 27:3)
- I am confident that is we ask anything according to God’s will, He hears us. (1 John 5:14)
- I am confident in my salvation. (1 Thessalonians 5:8)
- I am confident because I know the LORD our God is helping us fight our battles.
(2 Chronicles 32:8)
- I am confident that God will continue to rescue us. (2 Corinthians 1:10)
- I am confident others will share my joy. (2 Corinthians 2:3)
- I am confident in You Lord. (Galatians 5:10)
These are just a few of the scriptures in which I have found confidence. I am praying now that you continue to search and find confidence and joy in the Word of our LORD. In Him our hearts, minds, and souls are filled and overflowing for others to come to know God’s love.
Let us pray together now that we and all we pray for will continue to grow in the love and knowledge of Jesus Christ. May we be confident that the LORD our God is with us and will be with all others who seek Him through the end of time.
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, You are our confidence. We join Paul’s prayers that Your love may continue to grow in all of us. We pray that our confidence grows because of the knowledge we have gained that You are with us in our chains, and You will use our chains to help others complete the work You have planned for them. I pray with great joy and confidence that You LORD are our God and You will work through us forever. Amen.
