Today’s Scripture: Psalm 139:1, NIV- “For the director of music. Of David. A psalm. You have searched me, LORD, and you know me.”
Do you think we surprise God? Psalm 139 is filled with the wonders of an all-knowing God that we cannot possibly understand. However, we can be filled with thanksgivings of His wonderful love and knowledge of us.
Just because we are not aware does not mean God does not exist or is not aware of us. David reminds us in Psalm 139:2 that God knows when we sit and when we rise. He perceives our thoughts from afar. Psalm 139:3 tells us that God is familiar with all our ways.
Yes, God even knows how scary that is to us that He knows even those thoughts and ways that embarrass us to know anyone in this world or out of it would know we have. We all have thoughts and ways that we know are contrary to where we should be. Yet here we are.
Just as King David said in Psalm 139:6, such knowledge is too wonderful for us, too great for us to understand! (NLT) As Psalm 139:13 reminds us, God created our inmost being, He knitted us together in our mother’s womb. Many people in this world reject this as they cannot dare believe God is so intimate with us. Just because we refuse to look to God does not mean He is not there and here inside of us.
We can praise and believe that God fearfully and wonderfully made us. We know the thoughts and actions we have that are not so wonderful and so does God. In Psalm 139:16, we are told that all our days were written in God’s book before even one day had occurred. This is where the wheels fall off our understanding. Why God did you make us so that we can be so ungodly? Why O LORD did you order that day for me? It makes no sense to us.
We must trust that God knows our hearts, those things that try us, and all our anxieties. Every one of them. Nothing is hidden from God and yet He loves us in a most wonderful way. He also leads us along His everlasting way as promised in Psalm 139:24. Somehow all our ungodly moments and actions still get us to exactly where God planned.
So, we must not beat ourselves up and live in shame. Somehow, we must only trust Paul’s message in Romans 8:28, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” This is too wonderful for us to understand but not too wonderful for us to live out a life fully known by God our Father.
Will you trust the knowledge of our LORD today?
Today’s Prayer: Our Father in heaven, Your ways are too wonderful for us to understand. I am so thankful it was You who knitted us together in our mother’s wombs. We are all wonderfully and fearfully made by You. I am so thankful You know our every thought and way. You also know our heart’s desire and need to stay on Your everlasting way. Thank You Father God for helping us to turn back to Your way. Guide us to live the life You ordered. Thank You LORD for Your wonderful way. I am trusting You to take our tests and to turn them into testimonies that glorify You and bring hope to all Your children. In You we trust, pray, and live. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord we do pray. Amen.
