Today’s Affirmation: John 14:18, KJB- “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.”
We are not alone and will never be alone. Our self-centered egos can lead to isolation, loneliness, and self-reliance. There are days when we become overwhelmed with our responsibilities and demands. How are we to get this stuff done all by ourselves?
We were not intended to do life by ourselves. Our hearts are strangely warmed when friends and family lend a helping hand to our needs. We know the boundaries of gratitude when others give us their time and resources to get to where we need to be. Here in John 14:8, Jesus was reassuring his disciples that He was not leaving them without comfort and help. Most translations state that Jesus said He would not leave us as orphans.
As we are ducking down to keep from being knocked out by all the responsibilities of life falling on our heads it may be difficult to look up, much less, go to Jesus. Here in John 14:8 we are promised by Jesus Himself that He would come to us! Hold on just a little longer, Jesus is coming. “On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.” John 14:20 (NIV).
Yes, we do come to a day, a point, where we realize it is not about what we do, or can do, to go to Jesus. We really are not capable on our own. We need Jesus to come to us. Here In John 14, we are promised He has. We are not orphans nor comfortless.
Jesus also provided what was required of us for Him to come to us. We do have responsibilities. In John 14:21, Jesus stated “Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them.” (NLT)
Can we say this together now, Jesus I accept Your commands and I love You; I am obeying Your commandments today. If we are obeying Jesus as the boulders and arrows of responsibilities are coming our way, we can be reassured that Jesus is coming to us as well. Let us first just make sure we are doing as Jesus requires of us.
And what does our Lord require of us? I am reminded of Micah 6:8, where we are told, “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” We can obey this, can’t we? Let us just do what is right, love mercy, and walk humbly with our God.
Jesus gave us His commands in the scriptures. When asked what was most important for us to obey, Matthew 22:34–40; Mark 12:28–34; Luke 10:25–28 all provided some variation of what Jesus requires. “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ And secondly, “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
As we focus on loving the LORD and our neighbors, Jesus is coming to us. So, while our heads are ducked down let us be lifting our love and confidence that Jesus is coming to us today.
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, I love you. Help me Lord to keep Your commands of love. I am professing my love and faith that You are coming to me, and You are in me. I am in You Lord and I know that whatever is falling upon me today I can find comfort in knowing You are with me in all things. Thank You LORD for first loving us so we can live in love towards You and all others. In the name of Jesus who has come to me, I am praying now. Amen.
