Today’s Scripture: Psalm 30:4, NKJV- “Sing praise to the LORD, you saints of His, And give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name.”
We can sing praises to God in all our circumstances. God’s words for us call us to sing praises and His Word is reason for praise. As I read in Job 23:12 I could feel Job’s praise when he said, “I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.” (NIV)
When we treasure the words of God’s mouth more than our necessary food, we find reasons to sing praises to Him. When we treasure and ponder God’s words in our heart our hearts begin to sing. As Luke 6:41 states “the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” (NIV)
I do not know the number of times that the Psalms express that we are to sing praises to the LORD, but I stopped counting at a few dozen. I do know that I can hold onto and live out Psalm 71:14 which states “As for me, I will always have hope; I will praise you more and more.” (NIV)
I can feel David’s soul in Psalm 103:1 where he said, “Praise the LORD, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.” (NIV) As Psalms 106:12 promises we can believe His words and sing His praises. As Psalm 119:171 states our lips can pour out praise because He is teaching us His statutes. We can experience God and life as Psalm 119:174-175 promises that when God’s law is our delight then our souls become alive with praise.
The story of Job reminds us of Job’s troubles and that we all have troubles but I also learned that in the face of our troubles we can do as Job did in Job 1:20 when he had just been told of the deaths of his children that “At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship.” (NIV)
At the worst and greatest moments of our lives, we can fall to the ground and worship and raise our voices to sing praises to our LORD. Let us sing our praises to the LORD today no matter where we are.
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your words to us. Fill us with Your words so that our souls and our voices sing praises to You. As we fall on the ground before You LORD, we lift our praises for who You are and the treasures of Your Word. Fill us LORD and teach us so we praise You more and more. Amen.
