Today’s Scripture: Luke 24:45, NIV- “Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.”
Jesus reappeared to His disciples after His resurrection. They did not understand even though he had prophesied these days to them. Here in Luke 24:45 we are told that He then opened their minds so they could understand the scriptures.
The two had just returned to this group sharing how Jesus walked with them on the road to Emmaus and how He had explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself beginning with Moses and the Prophets. Jesus reemphasized this again to the disciples gathered in the room as He reappeared and once again said “all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.” Luke 24:44, KJB.
It is clear, if we want to see Jesus we must read and know the scriptures. I am thankful we can ask Jesus to open our minds to understand the scriptures. In these scriptures we also come to know the joy, wonder, and promises of Jesus and the Word. As Luke 24:47 promised, Jesus will be preached in all nations beginning there in Jerusalem.
Just like those disciples we are witnesses of these things. The world is depending on us to share what we have experienced with Jesus and the Holy Scriptures. As we experience the great joy Jesus gives to us, we are called to share this joy. As we praise God together the minds of the world can also be opened.
We must spend time in the Bible. We can ask Jesus and His Holy Spirit to open our minds, spirits, and souls so we many understand. As we read from Moses, prophets, and psalms we are directed and shown the way with the eyewitness accounts of the New Testament.
If Jesus reemphasized the importance of knowing the scriptures on these occasions it proves how vital it is to open and read God’s Word. Jesus will open our minds and the Holy Spirit will fill us and give us our mission. Has your mind been opened?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word for us. Draw us to the words of Moses, the prophets, the psalms, and the accounts of Jesus’ apostles. Jesus, please continue to open our minds so that we understand. Help us to share, with great joy and wonder, what we have witnessed in Jesus so the minds of this lost world will find Your way. Amen.
