Today’s Scripture: Ecclesiastes 3:11, NLT- “Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.”
Do you think God speaks to you? At times do you wonder if it is just in your head or that still small voice is yours? I am recalling one such morning from twelve years ago. It was a Monday morning and after my prayer time I sat at my desk to seek an affirmation from God’s word.
I was going to Luke 18 where I had left off last week but as I stopped briefly to ask the Holy Spirit for guidance a “thought” flashed through my mind. Does God want me in Luke 18 just because that is where I was, and the word Ecclesiastes “popped” into my head. I almost argued with myself. Tom do not listen to your head; you are making this up.
However, how often do you just come up with “Ecclesiastes” in your mind? Oreo cookies or ice cream maybe, but Ecclesiastes? I just began reading Ecclesiastes 1 at www.biblehub.com and God soon revealed to me it was Him and at times tears welled up in my eyes at His greatness. I am thankful that Soloman, the son of King David and the wisest and wealthiest king of all times laid out Ecclesiastes for us.
I love the fact that Ecclesiastes 3:11 includes that we cannot fathom what God has done or is doing with what we face. Peace comes with trusting the hand of God and not our understanding. I am also thankful that it is God who defines beauty.
On that particular day when God spoke Ecclesiastes to me, I was giving my testimony at a Celebrate Recovery group. Do you think that verse was intended to remind me that God takes our tests of life and turns them into our beautiful testimonies? Did he plant this seed in me to give hope for someone in the audience that day? Do you think it is possible that God wanted me to remind my fellow recovering brothers and sisters that “God has made everything beautiful for its own time”? I was going to share how my alcoholism brought me to my knees and on my knees, God gave me a passion for these affirmations.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 says there is a season for everything and in 3:3 we are told there is a time to heal. I continue to believe that this is God’s message to us. I have experienced and I have witnessed God’s beauty in some very unexpected and unimaginable places. I have come to trust that God does make EVERYTHING and that includes us in our own time. Our seasons help shape our beauty that gives us hope and purpose to help others experience the eternity God has placed in all our hearts.
Will you trust that God is making everything beautiful in His time for you?
Today’s Prayer: Holy Father, thank You for Your Word both spoken and written. Thank you for speaking to our hearts. Thank You for directing us with Your light and Your voice in the darkness. Thank you for taking what was dark and making it beautiful. Use our stories Father to give hope and to share the joy You have given us to occupy our hearts for all eternity. Amen.
