Today’s Scripture: Luke 10:42, NKJV- “But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”
“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things,” Luke 10:41 ESV. Sound familiar? Do we get lost in our anxiety and troubles of trying to do too much? Like Martha, we even stress over doing what is good. Jesus said Mary has chosen what is better.
What is better? Sitting at Christ’s feet and listening to His teaching. Can we just stop the madness and pause to sit at Jesus’ feet and listen? It is OK, really. Jesus says it is ok. You are justified and blessed to pause, sit, and listen.
There, don’t you feel better knowing you have permission to disconnect from your busyness? This peace that Jesus gives to us will never be taken away. Those things we are anxious about, that trouble us, and that we give up our lives for will leave us in the blink of an eye. Can you take a few moments today to recline at the feet of the Jesus and listen? This is a much better choice.
This morning in prayer I found myself, once again, asking Jesus to teach me what it was like when He went to be alone with the Father. What did He experience and what does He want us to experience in the solitude with God? After the Spirit led me to Luke 10:42, I found it interesting that I had just been asking again what the disciples asked Jesus in the very next verse Luke 11:1, “Lord, teach us to pray.”
Lord, I know you gave us the words in this and other gospels, but I am asking that You share the experiences You had alone with God. I want to rest here in the good part and listen, taste, and welcome all senses that You experienced Lord. I was encouraged to read in 11:8 that Jesus gave the example to His disciples to continue to pray with persistence and what you ask for will be provided.
I will continue to choose what is good and put away all of life’s stresses and demands to sit at Jesus’ feet and ask Him to teach me the fullness of His prayers with the Father. Will You enjoy the good parts?
Today’s Prayer: Lord Jesus I am here resting at Your feet. Thank You for Your peace and Your teachings. Please continue to teach us what Your prayers were like with the Father while You were in the flesh on earth. Thank You for coming near. In You Jesus we find power and rejoicing in Your Holy Spirit. Thank You Father, Lord of heaven and earth for revealing Yourself to us. Teach us to keep our eyes on You and fill us with Your light as we spend more time with You. Teach us to love You LORD with all our heart, soul, strength, and minds. Amen.
