Today’s Scripture: Ephesians 3:14, NKJV- “For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,”
We all have many reasons to drop to our knees before the Father. Even as Paul sat in a Roman prison, he could write of God’s great love for him and us. We have all been offered the immeasurable riches of God’s grace through Jesus Christ. God made us to do good works through Jesus Christ. As Ephesians 2:13 states, we have been brought close to God through the blood of Christ.
Through Jesus we all have access to the Father through the one Holy Spirit. For this reason alone, we should bow our knees before the Father out of our great appreciation and thanksgivings for Jesus and His Holy Spirit. Do you struggle to pray? We can start by kneeling and thanking God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit for welcoming us as complete members of their close, intimate, and complete household. Thank You LORD for welcoming us into Your home.
Ephesians 2:22 lets us know that through Jesus, God is building us into dwelling place where God lives in us through the Spirit. Getting alone in the hours well before sunlight we can soak and marinate in The Spirit of God. It is in these quiet moments that we get to know God and His mysteries that Paul mentioned he experienced in Ephesians 3:3.
No matter the reason, bowing our knees before the Father is the beginning. I am not speaking figuratively, hypothetically, rhetorically, or any otherally but am speaking of kneeling before the King of kings and LORD of lords. I recall early in my newfound relationship with God I was explaining the AMAZING difference in my life that kneeling before God had made. I can still see that conversation from almost twenty years ago when the person I was sharing with said in a weak voice with a turned-up nose, “do you think you really have to kneel?”
Is it too much to ask? I said I didn’t think you HAD to kneel, but it sure made a difference in my life. After reading Paul’s letter and seeing that he would physically bow his knees I have come to believe it is vital. I am not legalistic and understand, for health reasons, not everyone can physically bow. But a bowed heart is a welcoming heart to the mysteries of the Spirit of God
As Paul experienced in Ephesians 3:7, I have experienced that we too learn how to be a servant of the gospel by receiving God’s gift of grace and power in the quiet times alone with God and His Spirit. Even if we feel we are the least deserving to receive these revelations, as Paul refers to in Ephesians 3:8, God reveals to us during our “knee times” how we can share the unsearchable riches of Christ.
As we kneel, we find these things as promised in Ephesians 3: the glorious riches of Christ, the power and strength of the Spirit, and come to know the love of God. As we kneel our roots go into God, Christ dwells in our hearts and we are filled with the fullness of God. Do you really have to kneel? Nope, only if you want to experience the fullness of God. Will you?
Today’s Prayer: Almighty Father, thank You for Jesus and Your Spirit who allow us to come boldly and confidently to You. As I kneel before You Father, I praise You and glorify You. In You Father I place my trust. Your endless treasures amaze me, and I have come to know You and Your love for me. Help me LORD to comprehend the width, length, depth, and height of Your love for us. Fill me with Your fullness Father God. Have Your power work in me. To You Father God, be the glory for ever and ever! Amen.
