Today’s Scripture: Hebrews 11:40, BSB- “God had planned something better for us, so that together with us they would be made perfect.”
God has a plan for each of us. He created us with and for purpose. The course for our plan has been laid out and marked. Have you started your race? We must complete our part as part of God’s perfection. The world is counting on us.
Nothing about our plan was called to be easy. Chapter 11 of Hebrews was filled with stories of those in the bible who came before us. Their lives were not easy. Most were mocked. Many were imprisoned and some were put to death. Many wandered in the deserts and hid in caves and in Hebrews 11:39 says none of them received what was promised.
Maybe what we have been promised will not be realized until we get on the other side of heaven. However, we have been given this race, nonetheless. Hebrews 12:1 encourages us to run our own races with endurance, perseverance, and patience. The first step of our race, according to Hebrews 12:1 is for us to throw off the weights and sins that so easily entangle us.
Just as we each have a race; we also individually have weights and sins that trap us. If we are setting off on a long race that requires endurance, we can first look at weights we are carrying that we really should toss. We each know of our own struggles and the things that slow us or prevent us from completing our mission.
We can keep looking to God and trusting that He is using us to perfect His plan. Even our weights and sins have proven to work to bring Him glory. Can you think of a few weights you can toss now? Can you feel some relief as you slip off those anchors? We can trust in God’s ultimate rewards and His perfection.
I find some peace in the fact that the Holy Scriptures acknowledge how easily we are tripped by our sins. I also find solace in knowing my current results are not indicative of what God is doing through me. We must keep racing towards God and what He is calling each of us to do in the missions and races he has laid out before us.
As we consider our next step, let us look to Hebrews 12:2 that instructs us to keep our eyes on Jesus as we run our race. We should ask Jesus where we are to go. We can trust Him for the perfect path. We can continue to throw off weights we pick up along our way. We must only carry what Jesus makes clear we need. We do not need to hoard things in our lives that have no use in God’s perfect plan. Me must keep running in the direction Jesus is calling us. Are you running?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for all Your witnesses through human history that help guide our directions. Jesus, please draw our attention to You so we run the race that completes Your perfection and purpose for our lives. Use each of us LORD to encourage and offer help to each other to help provide encouragement, perseverance, and endurance. This is Your race Father God for us. Help us to be faithful. Help us identify those weights we must leave behind, so we finish perfectly. Grant us Your endurance Father God. Amen.
