Today’s Scripture: Psalm 46:11, KJB- “The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
How quickly we forget. We can jump into our days and activities with little thought of God. We stress and try to figure things out on our own. Then the moment comes when we need help and realize the situation is beyond us and we look beyond.
Throughout history and in our daily lives we quickly turn to our own ways. My mind always goes back to the children of Israel at the foot of the mountain in the wilderness. They know God is present. They have followed fire by night and clouds by day. Yet, Moses goes up on the mountain for just a few days and they turn to building a golden calf. In Psalm 46:10 God reminds us to “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” (NKJV)
The immediate fears and emergencies of life can quickly draw our attention away from God. It is hard to be still when there is chaos all around us. We are constantly pulled in different directions with mounting piles of unfinished tasks. However, we can stop and still ourselves for a moment to remember that the LORD is with us.
God welcomes us in Psalm 46:8, to come and see the works of the LORD. Reading about what God has done in the Bible helps remind us of what He has done. Psalm 46:6 reminds us that God can melt whatever is raging in nations and hearts. From the mundane to the miraculous, our LORD and His army of angels are with us, and He is our fortress and safe place. Always has been and always will be.
As we rage out of control, let us pause and be still and know that He is still God. Let us exalt Him and thank Him for being with us. Psalm 46:1 tells us that God is very present. Our God is not a far off and distant God, He is very present with us now. We are instructed in Psalm 46:2 not to fear. We can stop fearing, stop drowning in a sea of activities and crises. Simply stop and be still right now and acknowledge God and thank Him for being very present.
This is where we find peace in a raging world. This is also where we find the power of the Almighty God where we can act with confidence because the LORD Almighty Himself and His army of angels are standing with us and are very present. Will you be still?
Today’s Prayer: LORD Almighty, I am still before You. Thank Your LORD for being very present. You are God and I see in Your Word how You have been with Your people from creation. Thank You for reminding me to be still and know You are God and that You are with me now. I need You LORD to help me and guide me today in the raging waters of life. Protect me, strengthen me, and keep me present with You. In You LORD I trust and act. Help me to complete all tasks before me today and to glorify You and invite others to come and see. Amen.
