Today’s Scripture: John 14:1, NKJB- “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me”
So simple, yet so unnatural. In John 13:34, Jesus told His disciples he had a new command for them. It sounded simple. “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”
Sometimes it is not easy to love others, is it? Sometimes we forget how hard it is to love us as well. But, out of an abundance of gratitude that somehow God, the Creator of all things and His only Son, Jesus Christ love us. Can we believe that?
In John 13:37, Peter thought and felt he would lay his life down for Jesus, one hundred percent, no doubt. Jesus knew otherwise and told him he would deny him three times before the rooster crows. Jesus knows us better than we know ourselves. God is not shocked when we fall short.
We overlook the first five words of John 14:1. “Let not your heart be troubled:” Jesus used these words just after telling Peter He would fail him. It is ok, do not trouble yourself about that just believe in God and Me. We are not to trust our understandings, feelings, or troubles. We must simply love and believe in God and His ways.
Jesus was preparing His disciples in John 13 that He would soon be leaving them to prepare a place for them in His Father’s house. In John 14 Jesus is preparing us all for what it takes to enter Heaven where God has prepared a place for us. He told His disciples and us where He was going. Like Thomas we sometimes ask, “how can we know the way?”
In John 14:6, Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” What we do know deep down is that we do not know all things, we cannot do as Jesus did, but we have access to Him always and all we need to do is love and believe. We should not trouble ourselves but do our best to love, believe, and act as Jesus taught us.
As Jesus instructed us in John 14:10, we simply need to believe and trust that The Father lives in us. Right here and now, God the Father lives in us and He will do greater things through us if we believe. Do you?
Today’s Prayer: Our Heavenly Father, thank You for living in me. I am thankful for Jesus coming to show us Your Ways. I know Jesus promised to come back to take us to You. Help me to look beyond my troubles and understandings to believe, trust, and love as Jesus did. He truly is the way, the truth, and the life. Remove any unbelief far from me so I may trust in Your ways and Your presence so You will do greater things through me. Thank You LORD for Your presence. Amen.
