Today’s Scripture: John 8:36, KJB- “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
We have all been slaves to sin as stated in John 8:34. However, accepting and believing that Jesus is the Son of God sets us free. John 8:35 promises that when we are no longer slaves to sin, we can live as children of God forever.
Our sins and actions do not remove us from the family. While sin leads us into isolation, holding onto Jesus and the Father bring us into freedom. When we believe in Jesus, Jesus sets us free indeed. We can come to know God’s freedom over the cares and worries of this world.
We can trust that all the twists and turns in our lives only bring us to know God’s freedom. Whatever twist or turn we are in today; we can trust that God is with us. We will come to a crossroad. In John Baker’s Celebrate Recovery Lesson 19 entitled “Crossroads” we reflect on Principle 7. Principle 7 of Celebrate Recovery states “Reserve a daily time with God for self-examination, Bible reading, and prayer in order to know God and His will for my life and to gain the power to follow His will.”
Do we really have to reserve a daily time? Do we really have to read the bible? Is prayer really necessary? Well, haven’t we all been at these same crossroads? How did NOT doing these things work out for us? For me, not so well.
Meeting with Jesus early in the morning has taught me to know God and His will for my life. I continue to reserve this time with God and He does give me the power and Word to follow His will. As He teaches us in John 8:26, I am thankful I can speak what God speaks to me in His Word. At the crossroads of our lives, we would be wise to do as Jesus did when the woman who was accused of adultery in John 8:6, was brought to Jesus. We should simply bend down and pause with God and draw in the sandy ground before speaking or acting.
As children of God, we are never condemned. We have the freedom to turn to God and live with Him. In these quiet times alone with God we get to know Him. Reading His Word, we learn who He is and who we are to be. Praying with Jesus welcomes the Holy Spirit to help guide us to where we are to go. In this process we come to know God and His freedom. Is your time reserved?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Son and Your Word. Thank You Jesus for setting me free. Thank You LORD for welcoming me into Your family. Help me LORD to abide in You and Your Word every day. Teach me LORD so I may teach others. In You LORD, alone, do I find that I am free indeed. Amen.
