Today’s Scripture: 1 Peter 2:9, NKJV- “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;”
Peter reminds us we are chosen people. Chosen by God, we can choose to live and act as God’s children. Those of us who have tasted the goodness of God referred to in 1 Peter 2:3, should reflect His goodness. Most times we do fall short of the goodness of God, but the more we live out of gratitude and praise Him and Jesus Christ, Who brought us out of darkness, to more we live in His marvelous light.
God’s Word Translation states that we “belong to God”, in 1 peter 2:9. Belonging to God, we can proclaim His praises in living with the gratitude of being brought into His marvelous light. Out of the darkness encompassing most of this life there is the marvelous light of God that Jesus Christ has invited us into. We are God’s people so we should act like it.
Our sinful nature can draw us quickly back into darkness if we turn our eyes away from the light of God. Praising God is the quickest way to go back into His light. 1 Peter 2:11 states it clearly that our fleshly lusts wage war against our souls. Our souls belong to God so we must be diligent in turning our eyes and our souls to Him.
God welcomes us to do good works that will glorify Him. 1 Peter 2:15 instructs us that it is God’s will that by us doing good we will silence an ignorant and foolish world that is not of Him. Although we are encouraged to live as a free people in 1 Peter 2:16 we are to live as servants of God. As we show respect and honor to everyone in our lives, we are bringing honor to God.
1 Peter 2:18 reminds us to submit to our earthly masters, even when they are not so nice to us. How we react to others should reflect God. Just as Jesus laid down His life for ours, we must lay down our lives for others so they too may see God’s marvelous light. Out of our gratitude and praise of Jesus we can follow His example.
We can trust God because we belong to Him. By the wounds of Jesus, we are healed and welcomed into His marvelous light. Will we reflect His marvelous light today?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, I am praising Your name and thanking You for calling me out of the darkness of this world into Your marvelous light. I am thankful LORD for the life of Jesus who gave us all an example of righteousness to follow. I am thankful for the wounds of Jesus who has healed me. Help me LORD to reflect You instead of my flesh. I am praising You LORD in the face of hostilities so that I live in Your light and share Your marvelous light into this very dark world. Thank You, LORD for choosing me. Amen.
