Today’s Scripture: 1 Peter 1:3, KJB- “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,”
One of the reasons I enjoy reading multiple translations of the bible is that on any given moment God can use a word to change my outlook. I have written from 1 Peter 1:3 before about having a living hope referred to in most translations. Today having a “lively” hope from the King James Bible seems to take a merely living hope to a lively one.
Do we actively hope because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ? The Apostle Peter is clearly encouraging us that no matter what today holds, we have an inheritance in heaven that cannot be taken away. Again, translations can vary in the words chosen, but this promise of our inheritance will not fade away, regardless.
Even though we may face seasons of grief, we can still hope and rejoice in faith of our ultimate inheritance. 1 Peter 1:7 promises that our faith will be tested and refined. Although illogical, we have an unspeakable and inexpressible joy. Because of Jesus’ resurrection, we will have one through the salvation of our souls.
Glory followed Jesus’ sufferings and it will follow ours. The Holy Spirit was sent to those who gave us these promises of God and He was sent to us to guarantee our salvation. 1 Peter 1:13 instructs us to set our hopes, rest our hopes, and hope until the end for this revelation of Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 1:15 instructs us to live holy. Living holy takes us beyond what we know.
We must cling to the Holiness of God. During our stay here on earth we can fear and hope in God. The precious blood of Jesus Christ was spilled for us. Because of Jesus, we can believe and have faith and hope in God. We can love because God first loved us. We are born again, in Him, forever. Although our bodies may wither and fade, the word of the Lord is forever as promised in 1 Peter 1:25.
Because of these promises that are eternal we can have a hope that is lively today. Our hope rests upon the eternal promises of God and Jesus Christ. May we find a lively hope in them.
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the promises in Your Word for our heavenly hopes. We can look beyond our withering and fading hopes with a lively hope in Your promises. Thank You for Jesus who guarantees our inheritances held in heaven. Thank You for preparing a place for us so we can live with a lively hope today. Help us to live holy as You are holy. Amen.
