Today’s Scripture: Isaiah 11:2, NKJV- “The Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon Him, The Spirit of wisdom and understanding, The Spirit of counsel and might, The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.”
In Isaiah 11, Isaiah is prophesying of Jesus seven hundred years prior to Jesus’ birth. Today, because of the life of Jesus over two thousand years ago we can live our lives with the Spirit of the LORD resting upon us. God sent Jesus to us for us to learn to live as Jesus lived.
With the Spirit of the LORD resting upon us, we can come to know wisdom, understanding, counsel, and might. We can understand the fear of the LORD. It is the Holy Spirit that opens our eyes, hearts, spirits and souls to the awe, reverence, respect, obedience, and recognition of who God truly is. The Holy Spirit directs us to the power of God.
Predicted by Isaiah, lived and shared by Jesus, the Holy Spirit rests upon us today. We must only turn to Him. In Matthew 6:22, Jesus tells us “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light.” (NIV) When we look to and through the Spirit of the LORD towards God in heaven, we find the fullness of God.
Jesus is the fullness of God. He came so we would know. When our greatest delight is delighting in God and what He delights in we find rest and we bear the fruit of God. In the Spirit of the LORD, we escape our flesh. Our eyes still see flashes of flesh yet the Spirit of the LORD takes us to the light of God when we look beyond our own vision.
The rest and peace of God are found through His Spirit. A perfect world can be found and created when God’s Spirit and the knowledge of the LORD covers this earth. As Isaiah 11:10 promised, the resting place of Jesus is glorious. Jesus is our hope over all hostility among the nations.
Will you praise the LORD, look to and welcome the Spirit of the LORD to rest upon you today?
Today’s Prayer: Our Father who art in Heaven, we praise You and welcome Your Holy Spirit. Rest upon us Spirit of the LORD. Open our eyes to Your vision, knowledge, and understanding. Create a delight in us for Your delights. Turn our eyes away from our ways to Your ways. We are praying together that Your Spirit comes and rests upon all of the earth, so all nations know You and Your rest. Amen.
