Today’s Scripture: Matthew 6:25, NKJV- “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?”
Are we looking for more today? Looking beyond the temporal and looking for a deeper more meaningful life? Matthew 6:22, KJV states “The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.” If our eyes are focused on the goodness of God, we can see God’s light through the darkness.
When darkness is everywhere the light of God may be small to us. But as we focus it becomes brighter and brighter to the point of bursting and all encompassing. Looking to and living in the light of God takes us to a place that makes the things of this world dim.
Jesus was and is teaching us here in Matthew 5-7. He went up on the mount to teach and all focus was on Him. His words take all who listen to a level beyond our nature. We are to look to Jesus and the Spirit of God to get to where He is calling each of us.
This world has its constant and continually increasing worries. Yet God offers more. God’s more will not be found in increase of humankind. No, God’s more is found beyond the limitations of the flesh and demands of life. When we remove the plank from our eye as instructed in Matthew 7:5, not only will we see our brothers’ and sisters’ eyes better but we look to the light and eyes of God.
Matthew 7:7, KJB states “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:” Matthew 7:8 promises that everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
Matthew 7:9 mentions asking for bread. How often do we hunger? Do we ask for just one piece of bread and this bread lasts forever? Only if it is the bread of life, Jesus. However, just as our hunger pains come up every few hours, we must continue to ask, seek, and knock for God to be in every moment of our day. Our heavenly Father gives us the best gifts and we must continually turn to Him and ask.
Looking to this world for what we need leads to destruction. Looking to God gives us more. God leads us to life more abundant. From God we bear good and more meaningful fruits. We must keep asking for God’s will to do His will. When we keep asking, seeking, and knocking we come to know God better and He knows us. We recognize Him and He recognizes our voices.
We must keep practicing our reliance on the Father and His Son. They are the foundation we seek. When we are focused on God we are amazed, and we live a life of more. Will you ask, seek, and knock for God today so you will see more?
Today’s Prayer: Thank You Father God for the teachings and daily instructions of Jesus Christ. Thank You for Your Holy Spirit Who directs our eyes and hearts to You. Thank You, LORD for promising that everyone who asks, seeks, and knocks will be answered. I am asking You now LORD to direct my eyes to Your light. I am asking to know Your will today. I am seeking Your will and Your ways to live a life more than the ways of my understanding. I am standing at Your door and knocking in expectation of You opening Your doors to the life You intend for me. Help me LORD to know You more so You know me more. Amen.
