Today’s Scripture: Psalm 73:26, NKJV- “My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
Sometimes we try to soften the truth of our failures. As I revisit Psalm 73:26 this morning I noticed that most modern translations of the Bible say that our flesh and our hearts “may” fail. However, the King James version of Asaph’s words states positively that “my flesh and heart fail”.
I can relate to the NLT version of Psalm 73:2- “But as for me, I almost lost my footing. My feet were slipping, and I was almost gone.” Have you been there? Are you there now?
Why are we shocked when we slip or fail? Why are we shocked when humanity fails us? In moments of failure, which are sure, it is such a blessing that we can turn to God as our strength. Our ultimate strength will never be found in ourselves or others. Our strength is God.
Like Asaph, in Psalm 73:28, I can say it is good for me to draw near to God. I have put my trust in God and I can tell you of His works of old and of now. God is good to us. Even when we slip and fall prey to the temptations and enticements of this world, God is here for us when return to His sanctuary.
Like Asaph, we wonder why the evil seem to prosper and grow wealthy as they deny God. We may struggle and fail yet this is what brings us back to the sanctuary and strength of God. We know we need Him, and I am very thankful that He receives us and provides His strength when we have none.
In Psalm 73:21, the translators of God’s Word could feel pain that is even hard to put into words. Some of the descriptions of our pain were that our hearts were grieving or bitter and we were deeply wounded inside. When we act foolish and ignorant, God is always with us as promised in Psalm 73:23.
God guides us with His counsel and teachings. When our desire for Him is greater than our desires for things that fail us here on earth, we find God’s strength. God holds our hands and hearts. Will you draw near to God and take His hand?
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for taking my hand and my heart. Thank You for being the strength of my heart when I draw near to You. Keep me close LORD. Teach me and counsel me so that I seek You over the false promises of this world. Keep my feet, heart, and mind from slipping. You are my rock father God and my greatest desire always. Amen.
