Today’s Scripture: Matthew 19:26, NKJV- “But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.””
Do we really believe all things are possible with God or is this a cliché? Sports and hardships seem to pull Matthew 19:26 out to comfort us. When Jesus used it in Matthew 19, it made the disciples and all of us uncomfortable.
Jesus had already told the rich young man in Matthew 19:17 that there is only One who is good. That One is not us. Whether it is our riches or our other desires, we find it impossible to be perfect. Jesus made the point in Matthew 19:21 Jesus told the rich young man what he had to do if he wanted to be perfect.
Jesus knew it was as possible for him and us to do what is necessary to be perfect, as a camel passing through the eye of a needle. We cannot do this alone. We are neither good nor perfect. We can, however, believe that God makes it possible for us to live with Him forever. He also makes it possible for us to live with Him today.
If we choose to follow Him, we can, the best we can, and God provides the perfection and goodness. God wants us to give Him our anxiousness over money, stress over our earthly responsibilities, hopelessness over our addictions and illnesses. We need God for this to be possible and I am thankful God is the One who makes it possible for us.
We must let go and believe in God’s possibilities. We cannot treat His promises as slogans. Forty-eight times the word perfect appears in the bible. I have yet to find where Jesus requires us to be perfect to have eternal life. If God does not expect us to be perfect, why do we?
We should not aim for perfection but aim only for God. It is required of us that we must believe and trust that all things are possible with God. In 2 Corinthians 12:9, we are told that His power is perfected in our weaknesses. Our weaknesses serve as witness for the need for God’s power.
We need to make sure we are claiming God’s scriptures for His possibilities and not only for possibilities we wish for. Do you believe and trust that all things are possible with God?
Today’s Prayer: Almighty God, You alone are good and perfect. Thank You for granting Your power and perfection to us. Our weaknesses serve as proof that You alone make it possible for us to live with You forever. Reveal Your power in our weaknesses LORD. Help us to trust and live for You. We need Your goodness and power in us today dear LORD. Please grant us Your perfect love today. Amen.
