Today’s Scripture: Proverbs 2:1, NKJV- “My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you,”
Many times I think that if I am shown the steps to do something I will do it. I am not confident to come up with those steps myself. I do recall coming across the second chapter of Proverbs a couple of decades ago and thought I had finally found God’s steps. Proverbs two seemed to have a step-by-step guide to receiving the understanding and wisdom of God. Twenty-five years later I am coming to understand that knowing the steps is not the same as doing them.
It is funny, my memory is shaky at best, yet this morning I recalled a twenty to thirty-year-old acrostic I had created for me to help remember God’s steps. “Really Trust In a Christ Loving Silly Sinners” was what I recalled.
R- receive God’s words. God’s Bible is our instruction book, and this is not a cliché. 65 books of knowledge and insight that teaches us the way to go. (Proverbs 2:1)
T-treasure God’s commands within us. Let us not only think about them and determine if they are still relevant, let us treasure them as the most valuable gift on earth (Proverbs 2:1)
I – incline our ears to wisdom. Are we leaning in to God’s Wisdom and His communications with us or do we allow them to be drowned out by the voices of humankind. (Proverbs 2:2)
A – apply our hearts to understanding. Do we put effort into studying God’s Word and really apply ourselves? (Proverbs 2:2)
C – cry out for discernment. Depending on the translation you choose, we are told to cry out, which is effort, emotion, and desperation for insight and knowledge. (Proverbs 2:3)
L – lift or raise our voices for understanding. Again, energy and passion to cry out to God for understanding! (Proverbs 2:3)
S – seek understanding and Wisdom as silver. Do we really value the understanding, wisdom, and word of God? (Proverbs 2:4)
S – search intently and focused on God’s understanding and wisdom as if they were hidden treasures. The secrets and riches of live are in the Word of God. (Proverbs 2:4)
“Then” is the word that caught my attention back then and now. Do all of these things above and “then” you will understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. I do want to understand what the fear of the Lord means and is. I do want to find the knowledge of God above all other things, do you?
Follow His steps.
Today’s Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Words and commands. I am opening up my heart, mind, and soul to receive all of You. Father God, I am treasuring Your commands within me. Please leave no room for any other commands. LORD, I am inclining my ear and straining to hear You and Your Wisdom. Please grant me ears to hear. Help me LORD to apply my heart and to put into action what You have taught me. Father God, I am crying out now for discernment and understanding. Please hear my cries and fill me. Lord God, I am seeking You above silver and earthly riches and I am searching for You and Your Wisdom. Thank You for being available and not hiding from us. Amen.
