Today’s Scripture: Matthew 3:10, NLT- “Even now the ax of God’s judgment is poised, ready to sever the roots of the trees. Yes, every tree that does not produce good fruit will be chopped down and thrown into the fire.”
We find life in every word that comes from the mouth of God. As Jesus did in Matther 4:4, we can pull from the Word of God when we need it most. When Jesus was being tempted to turn the rocks into bread by the tempter in the wilderness, “Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” (NIV)
God is the provider of our daily bread. God’s Word, every word, feeds us and prepares us to produce good fruits. The Holy Spirit of God, who led Jesus into the wilderness, leads us to the words needed to stop us in our tracks to be exactly where He is planting us.
We cannot remember every word of God. Therefore, as we return to God’s Word daily, we are fed in unimaginable ways, and we are prepared to produce God’s fruits in His perfect timing. Just this morning as I began in Mattew 4:4, I felt the need to go back to Matthew 1:1 and I felt as if I was reading Matthew 1:1 for the first time.
We learn about the lineage of Jesus and the language of God. God has brought us prophets who centuries before told of the specifics of the life of Jesus. God brought guidance and protection in dreams and angels of the Lord. God can still stop us in our tracks and fill us with great joy as he did the wise men in Matthew 2:10, “When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.” (KJB)
God used the star that had appeared to the wise men years prior to stop them again at the house of Jesus the child. They knew they were in the right place. God still does this for us today. God can move heaven and earth for us. He takes us to familiar and unfamiliar fields to plant.
With every word that comes from the mouth of God, we are provided seeds of wonder that only God can provide. We may not recall these stories in the Bible, yet God and His Spirit remind us of every word, exactly when He knows it will produce the best fruit for His kingdom and glory. God still uses us. We can be a light on a hill for someone. We may be the sower or the reaper and there are times, it seems, we are the fertilizer.
We need to act immediately at God’s prompting. I found it interesting that when the angel of the Lord came to Joseph in a dream in Matthew 2:13 telling him to take Jesus to Egypt that “Joseph got up and took the Child and His mother while it was still night, and left for Egypt.” (NASB)
One day can make a difference. Let us live on every word of God. God gives us the seeds in His Word. The seeds of God produce good fruits. Will you welcome the seeds of God’s Word into your fertile soul today?
Today’s Prayer: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
