Today’s Scripture: Psalm 30:9, NKJV- “What profit is there in my blood, When I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise You? Will it declare Your truth?”
We were created to praise God. We can declare our praise and God’s truth. In Psalm 30:1, David begins exalting God because He knew God lifted him up. Out of our thanksgivings we praise the LORD. In Psalm 30:2 David praised God because when he cried for help God healed him.
What if you cry out to God and you are not healed? Is there still reasons and motivation to praise God? Whether we have been close to death or not we can praise God. We can be faithful to praise God and His Holy name. We can have hope in God’s favor which David says in Psalm 30:4 lasts a lifetime. Thankfully, David also points out that we may have to endure weeping, but rejoicing will come.
Seasons of tears will be followed by seasons of rejoicing. How O God, do we praise You in our weeping? In the middle of weeping, we may not be able to see through the tears. Reversely, as Psalm 30:6 points out, when we are riding high on prosperity, we may become overconfident and falsely believe our security is in our current good fortunes and forget to praise God.
As Psalm 30:7 promises, sometimes we stand firm and sometimes we are dismayed. At times we cry out to God for mercy and at times we must praise God just because we can. We can lift praises that the dust of the earth cannot. It sounds cliché yet we praise God for Who He is and not for what we are enduring or hoping He can do for us. Easy to say, hard to do, yet we can with His help.
We were made to praise God. We were wired to do so. I can feel the depths of Davids cry in Psalm 30:10,
“Hear, O LORD, and have mercy on me; LORD, be my helper!” (NKJV) LORD please help in our times of despair and in rejoicing. Help us to endure Father God until You do for us what You did for David in Psalm 30:11 where You turned his mourning into dancing and replaced his sackcloth with clothes of joy.
Turn us God towards praise. Turn us LORD towards hope in Your help. Please do not allow our praises to be silenced but help us to give thanks to You forever. We are not called to praise God because our life is in order, but our life comes into order by praising God.
Father God, please turn our eyes, hearts, fears, and pain towards You and Your favor upon us. Help us to praise You always. Can you ask God to turn your eyes, heart, and voice to praise?
Today’s Prayer: Lord God, help us to praise You forever. Thank You for Your favor that is upon us forever. Please hear our cries from the pits of life and hear our praises from the mountaintops. LORD, we need Your Help to praise You in all things. LORD, we do praise You and Your name for being our God. Thank You Father God for Your favor and Your joy what will be with us for all of eternity. In You we look for and offer our praise. Amen.
