Today’s Scripture: Luke 19:3, NKJV- “And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not because of the crowd, for he was of short stature.”
O that wee little man. The mention of Zacchaeus puts a childhood song on many of our minds and lips. I find the scriptures’ choice of words in Luke 19:3 interesting in most translations. Not only did he seek to see Jesus by climbing that sycamore tree, but He sought to see who He WAS.
Do we make the efforts to seek to know who Jesus was and is? Do we make any effort to look His way in the crowds and noise of life? With the least bit of curiosity and a dose of desperation, there are crossroads in our lives where we meet Jesus face to face. Like Zacchaeus, we find that Jesus already knows who we are.
For us to know Jesus we must get down off our perches and go and spend some time with Him. Most in the crowds on this earth who are against Jesus or say He is not the Messiah have never truly tried to know who He was. With extraordinarily little effort or interest many have been blinded to the truth of Jesus. Seeking salvation from the crowds instead of the Christ of God turns this world into an evil and chaotic place. We must rise above the masses to see Jesus and then come down to be with Him.
Zacchaeus is only one example from the bible that helps us learn more about Jesus. The good news is that Jesus came to seek and save the lost. Regardless of our sins, Jesus already knows us, and He still wants us to be with Him.
Like Zacchaeus we should hurry and go and receive Jesus joyfully. Jesus You are welcome in our houses today. Help us to be faithful as Your servant in Your parable in Luke 19:17. Let us put into action what You have given us.
Today’s Prayer: Jesus, thank You for knowing me. I want to know who You were on this earth and who You are this moment. Help me to be faithful in investing my time and gifts in You and with others. Help me to do what it takes to ignore the crowds so I may know You. Help me to be a faithful servant in sharing who You are. Open our eyes, hearts, and minds to who You are Lord Jesus. Please come be with us today. Amen.
