Today’s Scripture: Matthew 10:28, NKJV- “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”
In Matthew chapter 10, Jesus was giving instructions to His twelve disciples as He was sending them out into the world. I am sure, even armed with Jesus’ instructions, they could not possibly know what to expect. I am also confident that God chose these specific twelve because He knew they would go. Over two thousand years later we can be thankful they went.
In Matthew 10:29-30, Jesus reminded the disciples, and us, of who God is and how intimately aware of our lives He is. If He is aware of when a sparrow falls to the ground and knows how many hairs we have on our heads, He knows what we are facing today.
In Matthew 10:31, Jesus reminds us to remember our worth to God. Aren’t we worth far more than sparrows? Just as with these original twelve disciples, if we confess Jesus, He will also confess us before our Father in heaven. We are also warned in Matthew 10:33 that if we deny Jesus, He will deny us.
This is not a game. Jesus made sure the disciples were clear that the message of Jesus is a dividing one. When we share Jesus, there are some that do become enemies. Our fear is in the Father and not in enemies who cannot consume our souls. We are to carry our crosses as referred to in Matthew 10:38.
When we lose our lives for Christ as instructed in Matthew 10:39 we find the life of God. The lover of our souls will make a way for His love and His ways to be made known through us. We can go into our worlds today without fear of losing.
As David stated in Psalm 27:1, the LORD is our light and our salvation— whom shall we fear? The LORD is the stronghold of our lives so of whom shall we be afraid? As Psalm 27:3 states, we are to be confident in God.
As we are also told in Hebrews 13:10, “So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?””. We can confidently go and do for God knowing His love is forever and nothing nor no one we face today can change that. Let us go confidently where Jesus is calling us today.
Today’s Prayer: Thank You Jesus for calling us and giving us instructions and direction. Thank You LORD for removing every fear not of You. Thank You LORD for not only knowing every hair on our heads but also knowing every fear we face in our hearts and minds. Please remove any fears from us that would prevent us from freely giving what You have so freely given us. Your love and strength are forever LORD. Help us to spread Your message and trust in Your Holy Spirit for the words and ways You provide. Amen.
