Today’s Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:17, NKJV- “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
This morning in prayer I recalled yesterday’s scripture to ask, seek, and knock so it will be given to us. It was impressed upon me to make sure I was asking, seeking, and knocking for what God sent me to earth to do. In today’s reading I was brought to 2 Corinthians 5:5 where we are told that God gave us the Holy Spirit as a guarantee.
I had actually been praying earlier with my mind and spirit in asking that the Holy Spirit pray for me as referred to in Romans 8:26 in groanings I cannot understand. Holy Spirit please pray for me what I am to be asking, seeking, and knocking for.
Here in 2 Corinthians 5:13, I am reading that I need to be beside myself or even “out of my mind” (NIV) for God. To ask, seek, and knock properly I must get out of my own mind. I need the Holy Spirit to guarantee that I am asking, seeking, and knocking for what God brought me to earth to do.
Because Jesus Christ completed His purpose of why He came to earth, I too can complete my purpose with the new life I have in Him. Why then, would I ask, seek, and knock from my old self. I must get outside of myself and into God’s Holy Spirit. LORD, I am asking, seeking, and knocking for what You want for me. I am praying Your Holy Spirit prays and guides me in the new life You desire.
When we do this we all have a ministry of reconciliation, as referred to in 2 Corinthians 5:18. Because Jesus saved us we have been reconciled with God. Our reconciliation allows us to preach how Jesus Christ reconciled us to give others hope for reconciliation. We did not become new just to become new. We became new so others too will know the love and grace of Jesus Christ.
As 2 Corinthians 5:19 states, we are to be committed to our message of reconciliation. Armed with our new lives we are now ambassadors for Jesus Christ as stated in 2 Corinthians 5:20 as though God is making his appeal to others through us.
Are You asking the Holy Spirit to guarantee You live your new life?
Today’s Prayer: Almighty Father in Heaven, thank You for Your Son Jesus Christ and Your Holy Spirit who have given me a new life and a guarantee to live it. I am praying now out of gratitude to Jesus Christ and to reliance on Your Holy Spirit. I am asking that Your Holy Spirit guide my prayers so that I live a new life of reconciliation. I am asking, seeking, and knocking to live as You would have me live so others too will know Your reconciliation and new life. Amen.
