Today’s Scripture: Proverbs 23:26, NKJV- “My son, give me your heart, And let your eyes observe my ways.
God’s way is simple yet so hard. He is an all-in God. I have tried, personally, to give Him some of my heart and to observe some of His ways. My life, and probably yours, proves that is not a great formula.
God instructs us in Proverbs 23:18 to hear him, not just listen for Him. He provides a way that we are to guide and direct our hearts. Life and temptations of the flesh are what make this so hard. Proverbs 23 is also full of warnings of speedbumps along the life’s way. Proverbs 23:22 advises us to listen to our fathers and love the wisdom of our mothers when they are old. We are arrogant when we are young yet the older and wiser, we become we cherish those lessons from our fathers and mothers.
Hearing God and His Word is no different. We, many times, ignore God’s warnings as we think we must find out for ourselves. We do find out. At the end of the day, and life, we come to know God’s voice and His ways if we direct our hearts towards Him.
Proverbs 23:23 instructs us to buy the truth, wisdom, instruction, and understanding and do not sell them. Hold onto them and they will bear great and lasting fruits. We are warned that riches, in this world, fly away like on wings of an eagle as stated in Proverbs 23:5.
Proverbs 23 warns us that lack of discipline, gluttony, and sexual temptations, are all traps of the flesh. Like the wine in Proverbs 23:31, we should not look to these temptations that sparkle and welcome us. In the end, the ways of humankind, destroy. The ways of alcoholism are well described in these verses. Our warnings are listed in God’s Word for us to read and hear,
The Word of God gives us a roadmap to observe His ways. Will you give God all your heart and direct your eyes to His ways?
Today’s prayer: Almighty Father, thank You for speaking so we may hear. Thank You for guiding our eyes towards Your Ways. Please help redirect our eyes from the sparkle and temptation of the ways of the flesh and humankind. Help me to give You all my heart so that there is no other part of my heart I can give to temptations. LORD, please draw my eyes and my heart to Your Ways now and forever. Amen.
